Is Your Glass Full?

Monday, November 21st, 2011

Click here to listen to today’s Daily Power Prayer for Being Receptive to the Good!:

Optimism springs from certain knowledge that life is always improving. How do I know life is improving? I choose it and I open myself to receive it. Optimism is an attitude that I choose to walk in. My optimism comes from my understanding that regardless of anything that I see around me, underneath it all I feel that consciousness is ever-expanding. I have a fundamental belief that I live in a progressive rather than degenerative universe. Any destruction that I see is only proof that transformation is at hand—in the same way that winter’s destruction is evidence that spring’s new growth is coming.

Mahatma Gandhi said, “My optimism rests on my belief in the infinite possibilities of the individual to develop nonviolence. The more you develop it in your own being the more infectious it becomes till it overwhelms your surroundings and by and by might oversweep the world.”
Is the glass half empty or half full? It’s full. If one half is water, the other half is air. This is a facct. The glass is always full. I use this understanding to cultivate optimism as a practice in my life.

Today I examine my attitudes about life and look for areas where there is pessimism. I liken my heart to the glass that appeared to be half empty and realize that my heart is full. It is full of love, that which I can express easily and that which is opening and expanding. I allow myself to imagine a more loving possibility in all areas of my life. I take action in that direction and move the world in the direction of optimism based on belief and practice.

Affirmation:

I am receptive to the infinite possibility of good in my life.

Righteous Indignation VS Passion for Compassion

Sunday, November 20th, 2011

Click here to listen to today’s Daily Power Prayer for A Passion for Compassion!:

Righteous indignation sounds kind of interesting doesn’t it? Indignation, according to Webster’s dictionary, is “anger aroused by something unjust or mean.” I have felt that many times Essentially, it’s a fancy way of saying “I’m offended!”

As crazy as it seems now, for a long time I thought it was my job to take offense at things that bothered me. What changed me was my practice of nonviolence.

In 1997 I began an earnest study of the personal practice of nonviolence. I became very mindful of all the violent choices in my life. I quickly realized that taking offense was a violent reaction. Being offended was optional. Taking offense was never helpful, never healing.

I began to realize how habitual it was for me to take offense. I had to really look deeply at this behavior in my life and the cost of it. I was so grateful for the realization that I was actually being violent with myself when I took offense.

I began to look, instead, for how I could be helpful, loving and compassionate as a response. This is how I discovered that Love is the healer. Taking offense never healed anything in my life. I developed a passion for compassion. I was amazed at how quickly I could heal this long held habit.

My little willingness was all that was required to get enough clarity to see that I really didn’t want to live in that violent feeling anymore.

I’m so grateful that I can change my mind and live this passion for compassion!

Affirmation:

I have a passion for compassion and I share the benefits with everyone!

Roll With It!

Click here to listen to today’s Daily Power Prayer for Being Happy!:

In the Living A Course in Miracles class on Thursday, Dov Fishman shared a story a woman had shared with him about how she was in a situation where she knew she was right and her husband was wrong. She knew she could point it out to her husband but that wouldn’t be loving. She chose the loving thought in that moment and kept the peace.

That, my friends, is true spiritual mastery. It may seem so simple, how many times I wished I had been able to do that! I used to be such a fight-starter. Oh, my goodness! So often, I needed to be right and to make others wrong. I feel so grateful EVERY DAY that I decided to become masterful and live the highest possibility.

Now, I can see that “discretion is the better part of valor,” and that applies to so many things! I’m more interested in being loving. And I’m willing to be disciplined about it. I’m so grateful for that willingness!

I used to be one of those spiritual seekers who pretended to be much “holier” than I really was. I harbored a lot of resentments and it really sucked the life out of my life!

So, I ask you:

Are you willing to put PEACE first? Or do you need to be right. Will you trade your happiness for being right?

Let’s all get on board the Peace Train! It’s here NOW! All aboard!

Affirmation:

I choose to be happy and let Love rule my life!

A Passion for Compassion

Friday, November 18th, 2011

Click here to listen to today’s Daily Power Prayer for Compassion!:

It takes courage to live a life of Love. It takes courage to be open-hearted.

According to Webster’s Dictionary, courage is the “mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.” The root of the word courage is cour, which comes from the Latin and French words for heart.

It took me a long time to develop the willingness to have true courage. Why? Because I resisted being that loving and that open-hearted. What was deeply transforming for me was the decision to be compassionate.

I decided to be compassionate as a way of living – as a mode of being. I chose compassion as the vehicle for my life, if you will. I dedicated my self to that loving, understanding heart. Now that I live in my heart and look at the world through my heart I find that it’s easy to be courageous. I have nothing to fear. Truly. I have nothing to fear. Amazing isn’t it?

Would you be willing to develop the discipline of compassion if you knew that you would be able to have a life without fear? Is it worth it to you? If not, stick around. I intend to demonstrate the efficacy of my choice every day of the rest of my life!

Affirmation:

I’m all in for Love! I have a passion for compassion!

The Knower Who Knows

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

Click here to listen to today’s Daily Power Prayer for Clear Inspiration!:

Intuition is the “knower who knows” within each one of us. No one is without intuition. It is like a muscle that can be exercised in order to grow strong and clear. It’s hard to imagine that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. or Mahatma Gandhi could have each helped to shift an entire nation, as well as the world, without using their intuition. How could they have each begun such a formidable journey without trusting that part of themselves that knew the right way to go?

In LIVING IN THE LIGHT, Shakti Gawain writes, “The more you do it, the easier it will become. Eventually you will be able to contact your intuition, ask yourself questions, and know that in that ‘wise being’ within you, an incredible source of power and strength is available to answer your questions and guide you. As you grow more sensitive to this guidance from the intuitive feelings within, you will gain a sense of knowing what you need do in any situation. Your intuitive power is always available to guide you whenever you need it. It will open to you as soon as you are willing to trust yourself and your inner knowledge.”

Be willing to commit to developing a deeper relationship with the “knower who knows.” In developing your intuition and trusting it you are actively increasing your faith and your experience of peace. Ask for guidance often. The voice of guidance is assured and never fearful or angry. Follow your heart and give thanks for your own willingness!

Affirmation:

I am willing to be strong of heart!

Anger is Never Justified

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

Click here to listen to today’s Daily Power Prayer for Being The Peace!:

Sometimes a disagreement turns into something like a fight. Fighting is a part of everyone’s life – whether we’re a witness or a participant. How many of us have been taught to fight fairly? How many of us have ever seen it? Did your parents fight fairly? Did their parents? Sometimes I fight with myself, sometimes with a family member, or a friend. I know how to fight fairly, honestly and lovingly–truly, I do. I know because I remember when I didn’t. I know that feeling in my gut when I’ve said or heard something hurtful or blaming. I’m grateful for that pain because it reminds me to choose Love.

In his book IRON JOHN, the wonderful poet Robert Bly writes, “A good fight gets things clear and I think women long to fight and be with men who know how to fight well. When both use their weapons unconsciously or without naming them, both man and woman stumble into battle, and when it is over the two interior children can be badly wounded. The adult warrior inside both men and women, when trained, can receive a blow without sulking or collapsing, knows how to fight for limited goals, keeps the rules of combat in mind, and in general is able to keep the fighting clean and to establish limits.”

I agree with the teaching in A Course In Miracles: “Anger is never justified.” And still, anger is experienced. Upsets occur. Being able to handle these outburts and challenges with love, compassion and forgiveness is what I’m interested in. This is part of my intention to be masterful.

I’ve learned that stuffing my feelings to avoid having an upset doesn’t work either. As part of my practice of nonviolence, today, I look at how I fight. I set my intention that if there is anger, I can explore it – not judge it – with love and compassion. I am learning to express how I feel without the energy of violence and a desire to wound. My practice is so very important – I heal and the whole world heals with me. How wonderful!

Affirmation:

Love is all I’m interested in.

Clever or Clear?

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

Click here to listen to today’s Daily Power Prayer for Living In Clarity!:

One of the ways in which the ego thought system can really grab our attention is the impulse to show off and be clever. I know a lot about that. I used to look for ways to let everybody know how clever I was in order to get appreciation and recognition.

As I continued to deepen my spiritual practice and heal the ego habits and attachments I realized that has no value for me anymore. Anytime I feed the ego it makes me feel less alive, less enthusiastic, less fulfilled and less prosperous. I choose love instead.

Now, I enjoy supporting other people in shining – like I’ve been doing in the Living A Course in Miracles tele-class. It’s been so much fun to support these beautiful people in sharing their gifts and talents with us. It lifts my heart AND it brings benefit to thousands of people from around the world.

This shift is from seeking to be clever to being the clear heart of Love that is my true nature.

Where in your life are you seeking to be clever? Look for it and see if you can let that need to be recognized be healed. When you love and appreciate yourself you won’t need to get the affirmation from the outside. Instead you can appreciate others, remembering that you’re One with them and when one shines, all are lifted.

Make the shift and give others a lift!

Affirmation:

I’m willing to be see and know clearly the loving opportunities in my life.

Key to Prosperity

Monday, November 14th, 2011

Click here to listen to today’s Daily Power Prayer for Choosing Love!:

Gratitude is the energetic that multiplies.
What you are grateful for will multiply in your life.

That’s pretty simple, right?

What you complain about will also multiply.
Why? Because it is where you’re placing your attention.

Energy flows where your attention goes.

If you are TRULY interested in expanding the good in your life you MUST quit complaining. You must become vigilant. You must become dedicated to replacing your complaints with appreciation.

YOU decide what you’ll give the energy to.
No one can choose your thoughts for you.

And remember – whatever you choose affects everyone.

Are you living a life of service, bringing more love into the world?
Or are you polluting with your toxic complaints?

Choose ye this day whom you will serve – Love or your own complaints.

Affirmation:

I choose Love and all are lifted!
