There’s always much to be grateful for even when things are really difficult. I recall one of the very first things we did in ministerial school was a sharing of what we were grateful for. For a long time before then I’d become ever more grateful for my awareness. I used to feel so confused by life and by my feelings about life. So much of what I experienced was confusing to me.
I was confused so often because my ego interpretations of things were false. I consistently experienced being brought up short by my misperceptions and misinterpretations. It really was confusing and disheartening to me. It took me so many years, decades even, to realize that the issue was not that I was an idiot, but that I was so attached to the meaning I made of things.
My interpretations of events and situations was so often completely off the mark, that I truly didn’t know what anything was for, so I was very often left feeling like the very ground beneath me was unstable. I was living on the shaky ground of my own perceptions.
One of the most powerful tools for healing that I know is the ability to be grateful for things as they are. I began to practice an attitude of gratitude. I began to be like the child who comes downstairs on Christmas morning and looks in her stocking only to find it full of horse manure and says, “there must be a pony around here somewhere!”
I’ve learned that, behind the picture I see on the screen of life, there is a powerful good unfolding for me. I’ve learned that when I can be grateful for it, whether I can recognize what the good is or not, then I draw it closer to me. Gratitude multiplies the good and makes it more evident too!
I’ve had enough years of pushing the good away with my stinking thinking. I’m so ready and willing to embrace the good in each moment.
Love is omnipresent and so is the Higher Holy Spirit Self. There’s no benefit to pretending that what is true is false. I’m done with that. Let me magnify the good with my gratitude. Let me share the benefits with everyone!
In this way, i can live a life of service every day in every way! I LOVE this life!
