I feel very blessed that my father never had to participate in the Viet Nam war because he had two young children (me and my brother) and wasn’t subject to the draft. My grandfather served in WWII and so did my great uncles, my grandmother’s brothers, Alva and Stanley. My father’s brothers also served in the military. I’m grateful for their service and the honor they brought as servicemen to our country and our family.
I have such a great respect for the people I know who have served this country in the military. I have many friends who are veterans and I respect and love them all deeply as people.
When I was younger I was so against war and violence that I couldn’t quite wrap my egotistical head around honoring our veterans and those who gave their lives in service. I was 10 years old in 1969, so I am certain I was also influenced by all the peace marches and things I attended with my parents.
Contemplating Memorial Day and celebrating the lives of the men and women who gave their lives in service to the U.S., I haven’t had any immediate family member who was killed in service. I’m grateful for that, and I wish it were true for everyone.
I’d like to live in a world where no on dies fighting for or against anything, because there’s no fight to the death for any reason at all. I believe we’re headed in that direction, and my life is dedicated to the achievement of Peace on earth.
Each day I consciously choose to let go of the thoughts and beliefs that cause me pain. I am consistently, more and more without upset and I am profoundly grateful for that. The Peace I have now I never imagined I could achieve.
I feel that the greatest thing I can do to honor the lives of those who gave their lives in service, is to truly live a life of love and to Love my life as an American. I greatly appreciate the rights that I have as a citizen of this country.
May Peace prevail on earth. For all the families that have had a loved one give their life in service to this country, I share this prayer from Alice Bailey:
The Great Invocation:
Let Light and Love and Power Restore the Plan on Earth.
From the point of Light within the Mind of God.
Let light stream forth into the minds of men.
Let Light descend on Earth.
From the point of Love within the Heart of God,
Let love stream forth into the hearts of men.
May Christ return to Earth.
From the centre where the Will of God is known.
Let purpose guide the little wills of men,
the purpose which the Masters know and serve.
From the centre which we call the race of men.
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out.
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.
Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.
