Doubt is more pervasive than we recognize. Doubt manifests as the experience of lack, illness, depression, relationship challenges, career and creativity limitations and more.
Doubt is the cause and those are just some of it’s effects.
A Course in Miracles tells us that all doubt is self-doubt, but knowing that isn’t the same as eliminating it.
How many of us recognize that our challenges are really issues of doubt?
How many of us are willing, just willing, to recognize that the doubt is self-doubt?
If we’re willing to accept that our experiences of lack and limitation come from our self-doubt then we can be quite a few steps closer to having a healing. Isn’t that wonderful?
I’m so grateful that no matter what the appearance of the problem or difficulty is, it can be healed permanently by the Higher Holy Spirit Self if we allow it.
I frequently quote the end of Chapter V of the ACIM text where it says:
“… the first step in the undoing is to recognize that you actively decided wrongly, but can as actively decide otherwise. Be very firm with yourself in this, and keep yourself fully aware that the undoing process, which does not come from you, is nevertheless within you because God placed it there.
Your part is merely to return your thinking to the point at which the error was made, and give it over to the Atonement in peace. Say this to yourself as sincerely as you can, remembering that the Holy Spirit will respond fully to your slightest invitation:
I must have decided wrongly, because I am not at peace.
I made the decision myself, but I can also decide otherwise.
I want to decide otherwise, because I want to be at peace.
I do not feel guilty, because the Holy Spirit will undo
all the consequences of my wrong decision if I will let Him.
I choose to let Him, by allowing Him to decide for God for me.”
When there’s doubt, we’ve decided wrongly.
When there’s lack, we’ve decided wrongly.
When there’s any kind of pain, we’ve decided wrongly.
Instead of trying to figure it out or analyze the decisions of the past, let’s just do what Jesus suggests to us – give it over to the Higher Holy Spirit Self to undo ALL the consequences of any and all wrong decisions that we’ve ever made about anything at any time.
That feels really simple and easy to me.
Why would I struggle with doubt and pain when I can give ALL the consequences of any wrong decisions, projections, unloving choices, unkind choices, foolish choices, known or unknown, to the Higher Holy Spirit Self for healing.
Jesus even tells us that we can’t undo it ourselves, so let’s have Spirit do it and be done with it.
All we need to do is be willing.
If we’re frequently complaining about lack and limitation, are we willing to let it go? No, we’re not.
If we’re constantly talking about our pain and suffering, are we willing to let it go and have it be transformed? No, probably not.
It’s tricky because suffering feels so sticky.
I’ve learned that it’s best for me not to give ANY energy to what I would like to stop experiencing. Let me give ALL my energy, attention and investment into that which I desire to experience more of.
I was in a conversation with some folks about doubt recently, and I realized that I don’t notice myself experiencing a lot of doubt anymore. It’s because I don’t rely upon my own ability to discern or decide like I used to. I really like the ACIM teaching about “you decide for me.”
I’ve learned it’s better for me if I let Spirit decide for me.
I strongly prefer to energize that the Higher Holy Spirit Self is arranging everything for my highest and best good. And if it’s for ANYONE’s highest and best good it must be for the highest and best for ALL because we’re one with each other.
No one can experience their highest good and have it be a bummer for me, unless I’m entertaining a false belief. I’m not interested in that anymore.
I’ve done a number of episodes of my weekly A Course in Miracles weekly Radio Show on the topic of doubt, but even more on faith. Recognizing doubt is helpful. Cultivating a deep faith is transformational. (FYI, you can search through the archive for episodes on whatever topic you’re interested in.)
