Yesterday I was getting ready for my radio show (You can get the downloads here: and I realized that it was September 11th. Of course, here in the U.S. September 11th is most likely remembered as a day of great tragedy, but not for me.

Yesterday, my precious Goddaughter, Amelia, celebrated her 6th birthday. This gorgeous girl was born, like many other people, on September 11 and the day is their birthday. My love for Amelia is what I recall when I see the date 9/11. I don’t associate the date September 11 with fear and terrorism anymore. It’s the day we celebrate Amelia’s appearance in our family and on the planet and we’re grateful she’s come to join us on this journey of Love.

This is in no way to minimize the impact of the death and suffering that was experienced on that day in 2001 and the days that followed. What I’m sharing is that there was a time when I thought it would be impossible NOT to associate September 11 with tragedy, and now I can honestly say the first thing I think of is “that’s Amelia’s birthday>”

Amelia’s being born was a big deal to all who love her. Her actual birth was a powerful experience for her parents and for me. I felt her coming even before her parents had met and so her arrival is one that brought much joy!

It’s so valuable to be able to open our minds to living in the present moment. It’s something that I’ve been able to do more and more ONLY because of my willingness to release the meaning the past has had for me.

Sometimes it feels like we are meaning making machines. The ego mind is constantly assigning meaning to what it experiences – sorting and labeling – and always to create a greater sense of separation.

The more we’re interested in Love, the more healing we can experience, and the more we can be available for the good that’s available in the present. Joel S. Goldsmith, that brilliant mystic, called it Practicing the Presence. Beautiful!

I AM practicing the presence of Love.
