I’ve been on the big island of Hawaii for the last 5 days and it’s been a wonderful time exploring and preparing for the retreat that David Hoffmeister and I are leading in February.
Yesterday as part of my exploring I did a hike to Shipman’s beach. I had been told that this remote beach was a favorite place of sea turtles and I had hoped to swim with the turtles so I made this a plan. Of course, the first person that I told about it said he’d been there a few times and had never seen turtles there.
I knew this was going to be a hike – 90 minutes each way – and that it would be beautiful no matter what. So, I decided to go without attachment to seeing and swimming with the turtles. No expectations and no attachments – yet, I did have an aspiration to commune with the turtles.
I can remember when I had so many expectations all the times. So many attachments! I literally pushed the good things away with all that wanting and craving.
I had a great hike – walking an ancient Hawaiian road through the most beautiful jungle to finally emerge in a pristine and protected inlet. So beautiful! The water was warm and inviting, so blue! I made a prayer that if the turtles would come I would be so grateful. After a few minutes I saw them. I saw a pair climb onto he rocks and sun themselves, I saw a few more swimming right beside me. What a blessing!
I celebrated with homemade ice cream in a homemade waffle cone and iced kona espresso. It was very spiritual.
And now I get to share the blessing with you!
It’s wonderful to practice having no attachments and enjoy the outcome of a hope fulfilled and no expectations. That’s a blessing too!
I AM open to receive my blessings!
