Today is Palm Sunday, the Sunday prior to Easter. It marks the celebration of Jesus’ return to Jerusalem. It’s so named because when Jesus rode into the city on a donkey the people laid on palm fronds in front of him along the way, as was the custom for honoring great kings and nobles at that time.

What if we take this day to celebrate the return to our heart, to the kingdom? Love is king. And what if, like Jesus riding on a donkey rather than some glorious stallion, we recognize that we enter our hearts with humility?

I’ve learned that humility is key to my awakening heart. I’ve learned that I cannot have true humility without releasing all blame and taking total responsibility for everything that I experience.

This is a teaching that many spiritual students reject. It is the teaching of A Course in Miracles and of Ho’oponopono. The teaching is total forgiveness, which is non judgment and total responsibility. No blame.

I used to look at others, particularly my loved ones, and blame them for how I felt. I am an empath, a highly sensitive person and my strongest intuitive faculty is feeling – clairsentience.

I used to “take on” other people’s feelings and upsets and then I’d feel upset myself. How did I do that? Through making their upsets real. I felt their pain. I was in sympathy for their suffering. I took the view that their suffering was bad and should be different. I thought that I knew what things were for.

Now, I’m aware that I don’t know what anything is for, but I’d like to.

“I do not know what anything is for.” A Course in Miracles, Lesson 25

I’ve realized that until I have an awareness that fully extends beyond time and space, it’s pure arrogance for me to believe that I know what anything is for. I don’t have that kind of clarity yet, … but I’m working on it.

I don’t take on other people’s suffering anymore, because I don’t judge it as wrong or bad. My suffering is always a result of my own thought. My suffering helps me to wake up. It is the Divine Alarm Clock going off telling me that I’ve fallen asleep at the wheel and I’m crashing. I can take that pain signal as helpful and choose to wake up – to Partner UP! And now, I do. This is my practice of waking up.

If others are suffering, it’s for me to change my mind about. Instead of trying to change the world, the circumstances or anything that is a projection of my thinking – I seek to change my thinking.

“As a man thinketh, so does he perceive. Therefore, seek not to change the world, but choose to change your mind about the world.”

A Course in Miracles, Chapter 21, Introduction

Let us all awaken our hearts and change our mind about the world! Today, investigate what judgment are you holding someone prisoner with? Where are you judging other people’s suffering thinking that you know what it’s for? Thinking it shouldn’t be happening? That somehow there’s an error in the effect rather than an error in cause. Thought is cause. Let’s change our minds!

Being willing to change your mind requires humility. Spiritual awakening requires humility. Are you willing to be a healer through changing your mind?

I’m so grateful for every experience I’ve ever had that I could choose to learn from. I’ve been thinking about my relationships a lot this week because we launched the Living A Course in Miracles class series on Holy Relationships and our topic was having a Holy Relationship with Friends.

The replays for my Holy Relationship with Friends class is on right now and you can listen to it! Won’t you join me? Classes are free – but you do have to register. Please click here to register now!
