As a child we had that rhyme we said “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.” It’s a great tool for us at any age – and sometimes we don’t wish to remember it. I used to believe that I was hurt by what what other people did and said. Now, I know better. I am so grateful to realize that I was feeling hurt because of the meaning I made of what they said and did. I could choose a different meaning if I wished to.
I used to close my heart to people because I had been hurt. I believed that closing my heart was protecting myself. I’m so glad to learn that the more my heart opens, the safer I am. The more my heart opens there’s no place for resentment to take a hold. The openness keeps me in the flow and that is SUCH a good feeling!
Holding onto hurt and resentment didn’t feel good at all.
It was just a bad habit.
All forgiveness is self-forgiveness. If I’m feeling hurt, I can change my mind about it and drop the meaning I made. It’s deep and restorative practice.
Being patient, kind, generous and grateful are four great ways to practice being open hearted and every day offers so many opportunities to practice! Healing opportunities arise all day long! What a blessing!
We’re waking up together and I’m so grateful for that! If you’re finding what I’m sharing to be helpful won’t you please share at facebook and twitter to let others know? Thank you!
