If you’d like people to run away from you, give them advice!

People ask me for advice a lot. And I’ve learned so much about getting and receiving advice over the many years I’ve been on this planet. Here are some of the most valuable things I’ve learned:
If people aren’t asking for advice, they don’t want it.
If you’re looking for rejection, give advice to people who aren’t asking for it. You’ll feel rejected pretty quickly. It works like a charm!
If you’re giving advice that you wouldn’t actually follow, shut your mouth. That’s just crazy!
If you think someone should do something differently and you’re going to give them advice about it, get rid of all your judgment first.
Then pray for yourself and them.
Then go to the movies, get a good night’s sleep, work out at the gym, fix a nice breakfast, go to work and see if you still have any judgment when you get back home. If you’ve managed to get rid of your judgment, celebrate that and, if all goes well, you’ll have been able to avoid giving advice that no one is asking for! Woo hoo!
Here’s what DOES work:
In my Masterful Living Course we have amazing, deep and powerful dialogues of sharing that are so healing and nourishing and one of the primary rules we have is: No advice.
It can be helpful to share what works for you or what you’d do in a given situation – that’s sharing. Giving advice that is unsolicited almost always blows up in our face. We’ve all had enough of that, haven’t we?
We’re waking up together and I’m so grateful for that! If you’re finding what I’m sharing to be helpful won’t you please share at Facebook and twitter to let others know? Thank you!
