Day 22: Relaxing Into Spirit

Our purpose in our 40 days of Pray & Clear is to love ourselves free of limiting thoughts, beliefs, habits and emotional patterns. We’re cleansing and detoxing the physical body as a way to focusing our mind on loving ourselves and being mindful.

It’s easy to fall into patterns of eating and drinking without any sense of being present to what we’re doing and why we’re doing it. In this way we lose track of ourselves. We’re not present to our life experience when we’re not really tasting our food and drink. We’re not present to the Spirit of Love that is omnipresent when we’re mindlessly eating and drinking. We’re literally blocking the flow of Love by disconnecting and tuning out.

It’s so valuable to be willing to wake up and be mindful during our days. I had to really learn how to become aware of myself and break the habit of zoning out. Being mindful is the way to bring a lot more Love into your experience.

One unloving habit I had was trying to do too much and then not leaving enough time to get to places and then I’d be rushing to arrive on time. I finally realized that I wasn’t being kind and considerate to myself. If someone else was in charge of my schedule and they hadn’t left me enough time to get to my appointments with ease and grace, I would have insisted on a change – but I was doing it to myself!

Here are some of the many ways that I’ve seen myself and/or others mindlessly eating:

  • eating the same foods day after day because it’s easy and we don’t have to think about it
  • eating meals while reading and watching television without really tasting the food
  • eating so fast that you barely experience it – not chewing your food well enough to easily digest it
  • eating well past physical satiation
  • eating for comfort, when it’s not actually comforting
  • eating and drinking to numb out
  • eating low nutritional food and then feeling low energy
  • eating food that’s hard on the body and leaves you feeling unwell
  • not paying attention to what really feels best and eating what tastes good or is convenient

If you recognize yourself in any of these, it doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you – it means there’s a great opportunity to become more mindful and improve the quality of your life of Love!

Think of it this way: You are the Love of God. You can begin to treat yourself like the Love of your life!

It’s helpful to ask yourself: Would I make someone I really loved live this way?

Would I make them eat the same foods day after day?
Would I make them eat their food really fast without fully tasting it and chewing it? Without much enjoyment?
Would I make them overeat? To the point of feeling sick?
Would I make them eat until they felt numb?
Would I give them poor nutrition day after day?
Would I make them eat food that their body had a reaction too and made them feel sick?

I wouldn’t do that to someone I love. So why would I do it to myself?
If we’re really going to change our minds, and have a healing, we start choosing to make inspired choices – tuning in to what feels best and following our intuition. Our motivation is a restoration to Freedom in our mind and in our heart and this leads back to Joy!

Here’s where eating and drinking becomes a real part of our spiritual practice – it becomes part of our liberation. We’re relaxing into Spirit when we become mindful. We’re stepping into the flow of Love and the All Good when we become more mindful. Mindfulness is a powerful, life-changing spiritual practice!

Spiritual practice SAVES time that would otherwise be spent in suffering.
Invest in spiritual practice rather than in suffering.

Please share in our facebook group your own awareness of things that you’ve done less mindfully and can practice being mindful with.

Overeating mindlessly can seem like the only pleasure we have – but it can also deny us our Joy. It can be a false idol, a substitute for God.

Nothing tastes as good as Joy feels!

On the cleanse side of life: Many people who have been eating a lot of sugar, drinking alcohol frequently and in larger quantities or taking many pharmaceuticals or things such as Advil, can experience a real challenge with their liver being able to keep up with their lifestyle. Part of this detox is to help the liver recover. Did you know your liver is the largest fat burning organ in your body? The liver regulates your metabolism – so you can imagine how important the liver is to your health and happiness. One thing you can do to help speed up your liver’s healing is take 2 tablespoons of olive oil at night and then follow it with (hot) lemon water. Try it and see!
