I’ve learned to respect my adrenals. As you may know, I enjoy my work and I love to play and so I lead a full life. I’ve learned a very healthy respect for rest and restoration. A few years ago, I had so much on my plate that it was really too much and I pushed it just a little too far went into adrenal fatigue. I’ve been careful not to repeat that as it was really tough and not necessary.
You probably know that humans have this lovely stuff called testosterone. Men have a lot more of it then women. Testosterone is a hormone that affects our sex drive, but it also gives us that energy to keep going and get a lot done. Men have so much more than women do and that’s one of the things that gives them a natural ability to run after a deer and bring it home to feed the family.
In our modern world, women are doing the same level of work as men, and still, often, having to actually work harder then men in order to prove that they can do the same work as a man – it’s still happening, folks and we all know it. Yet, women don’t have the testosterone so they rely on their adrenals. Adrenal fatigue is a real issue.
Stressful living causes the body to be in a continuous state of emergency – and that is ok for a short term – like getting through an actual emergency or a really intense work load, temporarily. Many people live that way and add to their stress by simple lifestyle choices such as:
- not getting enough sleep
- rushing and not allowing enough time to get where you’re going and do what needs to be done
- trying to do way too much
- stress
- working too long and too hard without breaks
- poor nutrition – sugar, processed foods, alcohol
- poor sleep habits
- depression
Adrenal fatigue symptoms are:
- trouble getting out of bed
- chronic tiredness, even after you wake up in the morning
- trouble thinking clearly or finishing your tasks
For me, it felt like I had my energy cut by about two thirds. I felt listless and just plain exhausted, and it took me weeks to recover. AND it’s important to know that when adrenal fatigue continues it can cause low blood pressure and allergies as well as exhaustion.
Things that contribute to adrenal fatigue are:
- stress
- working too long and too hard without breaks
- poor nutrition
- poor sleep habits
- depression
In our Pray & Clear 40 days one of the major benefits for many people who follow the detox in the book Clean by Alejandro Junger is that they recover from depression and they restore their adrenals.
Things that support your adrenals:
- Healthy diet like in the Clean program
- Getting enough sleep
- Regular exercise
- Eat within an hour of waking up – start drinking that smoothie!
- avoid sugar & caffeine which stress the liver and adrenals
- avoid alcohol
One thing that really helped me was acupuncture and herbs – in addition to everything else. I got back on track pretty fast. I’ve become a big believe in acupuncture – and I’ll share more about that in the future.
If you think you might have adrenal fatigue, I highly encourage you to go to an acupuncturist or an ayurvedic doctor for consult. They will recommend a healthy course of action to get extra support – and doing the detox is going to be helpful to you. You’ll be amazed at how much better you’ll feel when the hormones are working well!
One thing I know makes me feel better is to get that Vitamin D from the sun – 10 – 20 minutes of sun – even if it’s a cold winter day, if you can get some sun on your face – go for a walk! It always makes me feel better.
In our facebook group, people have said they started feeling a whole lot better in just one week. I’ve observed that most people don’t suddenly start feeling poorly. They gradually run down because they lose track of themselves – they lose touch.
People get stressed and start eating poorly.
They start drinking more coffee to keep up.
They start drinking more wine to come down.
They’re stressed so they eat to comfort themselves.
They’re too tired or busy to exercise.
Next thing they know, a few years have gone by and now they don’t feel so great.
It happens all the time.
The REAL reason ALL of this happens is because people don’t have a healthy spiritual practice and aren’t in touch with their Spirit. When we’re tuned into Spirit we take good care of ourselves.
The good news is – in 40 days, you can turn a lot around! And we’re doing it together!
The key is not to make a temporary change, but to actually let LOVE be your inspiration. Loving yourself enough to live a great life is what we’re about. If we don’t truly change our mind about ourselves and our life, then the change is temporary and the motivation isn’t strong enough to make a lasting change. We’ll just fall back again and feel even worse.
All healing is at the level of the mind – and that’s where we do our work. We partner UP with the Higher Holy Spirit Self to Love ourselves free of the lack of self-care. Prayer works!
Please share your insights, challenges, recipes and breakthroughs in our facebook group.
REMEMBER: When stress brings up the temptation to self-medicate choose self-nurturing and cultivating that willingness to look at the thought that causes the stress – rather than manage and cope with circumstances. Strengthen your alignment with Love and remember to choose transcendence – PRAY and Partner UP! Build the healthy habit!
Nothing tastes as good as Joy feels!
On the cleanse side of life: I know we hear it a lot, but we don’t always listen, so I’ll say it anyway – drink a lot of water. Drink spring water if you can. My body likes it better. We need a lot of water. Especially during detox because we’re flushing out the unhealthy stuff. One thing people say is : pee pale. In other words, if you’re drinking plenty of water, your urine will be light colored. If you’re not drinking enough water, your urine will be much darker. That’s a good gauge for whether or not you’re drinking enough water. Remember too – that many people over eat because they’re actually thirsty. They’re looking to get the water that’s in a lot of foods. Why over eat when you’re body is actually in need of water to be healthy?
If you’re finding what I’m sharing to be helpful won’t you please share at facebook and twitter to let others know? Thank you!
