About 5 or 6 years ago, when I was camping in Vermont at the Sunray.org Peace Village after having attended the summer seminar with my teacher, Venerable Dhyani Ywahoo, it was getting close to the time when I would be returning to Los Angeles after three weeks of being in the woods surrounded by the Green Mountains. As I was driving from the little town of Bristol and heading back to my campsite, driving past the waterfall that I’m sharing a photo of today, I started to cry because I didn’t want to go back to Los Angeles and be in the city. I yearned to stay in the woods, in the mountains, by the river.

I burst into tears as I drove along. “I don’t want to go back to the city!”

The thought of being in the concrete jungle felt so hard to me and I was weary from it. I had a longing to be with the trees. My Higher Holy Spirit Self communicated very clearly to me:

“Your work in Los Angeles isn’t done. You really do wish to bring that to completion, so you actually do want to go back to L.A. You can bring the energy of the trees, mountains, rivers and waterfalls with you to the city.”

I knew right away that was true. I could invoke that energy of nature while I was in the city. I did, and it changed my feeling about being there. Then, after about 2 more years, I knew it was ok for me to go and I did.

For me, willingness to choose the highest and best is the main thing. If you don’t like where you are and you’d rather be somewhere else, tune in. Maybe there’s something for you to complete where you are. Maybe there’s something that’s holding you there that’s yet to come. Sometimes we just don’t know.

When we’re willing to truly be of service, to choose the highest and best, then there will be little question of what the right thing to do is. For me, it was best for me to stay in the city until I was complete and then when it was time to leave I knew it unquestionably. I was so glad I didn’t leave prematurely – I’m sure that had I tried to do that, it would have been difficult, if not impossible.

We can learn to feel when things are for the highest and best. This is a skill for us to remember and all that it requires is our willingness. When we’re able to recognize that the highest and best is always going to be the highest and best for all because we’re one with each other, making the choice gets much easier.

Is there anyplace in your life where you’re trying to force things? Be willing to step back and be divinely guided. It will come if you’re truly interested in being truly helpful.
