I’ve talked with many people who are feeling extremely conflicted, or their loved ones are feeling it, as we draw closer to the inauguration on Friday. I get it.
I have loved ones who feel quite afraid that the our new president will lead us into a deep ditch.
I don’t feel afraid. I feel energized and excited that people all over the WORLD are getting ignited into holding REAL change in their minds.
I was born at the end of 1959, and my parents were social activists. They were in their early 20’s and they were INVOLVED in helping people to change their minds about equality, civil rights, and women’s rights. Eighteen years ago, I began studies with Rev. Dr. James Lawson, who was a mentor to Martin Luther King, Jr.
From Rev. Lawson, I learned about nonviolence as a method and a way of life, and it changed me. It opened my heart and my mind. It’s a powerful and constant spiritual practice.
I remember going to marches with my parents. I remember carrying signs in demonstrations even as a girl. I particularly remember one peace demonstration with my Mom on Mother’s Day to protest the Vietnam war.
My parent’s raised me to get involved and to stand UP to a bully and not sit passively by and let someone else take the lead. My parents taught me to use my voice to speak up for those who cannot or feel afraid.
I’m so grateful that I’ve learned that the greatest tool I have is to change my mind about the world. That’s the way to really make a change! Working at the level of the mind for my own Clarity and healing, then I can walk in the world in a helpful way.
And that’s what I mean when I say: Walk the Talk and Live the Love.
Can you ever remember a time when Women’s Marches were planned in over 40 countries to take a stand for people’s rights in response to a president’s inauguration? This is truly remarkable. People around the entire globe are waking up and using their voice.
This weekend, I’m going to March in Washington, D.C. on Saturday with my beautiful sister-in-law, Debbie, and I’m going to have my voice heard and also to be that voice for Love, compassion, kindness, generosity, and true Freedom.
Honestly, I’ve been a bully. I’ve been unkind. I’ve lied. I’ve badgered people. I’ve done a lot of things in my past that have taught me to have compassion for people who lash out in anger because they feel hurt and afraid. All bullies are acting out from their own lack of Self-Love. Let’s join together and Love the bullies back into their heart.
As Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only Love can do that.”
Let’s BE the Light and BE the Love.
That’s the change we’d like to see in the world.
Part of why I’m going to Washington, D.C. on Saturday is because I intend to hold the Light of Love and be a peaceful presence at the March. I intend to participate in a celebration of the United States Constitution and of the awakening that is unfolding for all of us.
We’re calling forth tremendous healing and change – and sometimes, when there’s transformation at the deepest levels, it can look, for a while like things are falling apart.
I believe that everything works together for good and there are no exceptions.
I AM grateful to use my body to participate with millions of people around the world who are willing to stand up to bullies and speak for equality. I’m grateful that I can do this with Peace.
In my heart I know that everyone is not only my brother, or my sister, but they are also one with me. There is no other. No matter how different a person might seem, no matter how much I might disagree with them, they are still a part of me. I’m not interested in attacking or dividing, only in uniting. Unity consciousness is the answer to ALL of our perceived problems.
