A week ago I wrote my Sunday Shot of Spiritual Espresso about Replacing Doubt with Faith.
Like most people, my life has been a series of wake-up calls. Especially as I became an Agape Licensed Spiritual Practitioner and then a minister. Wow! I really began to see where I was deluding myself!
I am so grateful that all of my prayer and strong intention to awaken paid off. I started to discover all of the MANY ways in which I had placed my faith in the world and in my own opinions, impressions and understandings rather than in Spirit.
I also was able to realize that while I’d been teaching the spiritual Law of Cause & Effect, and I understood it intellectually, I really wasn’t living as though I understood it. I was still blaming other people for my feelings and trying to change THEM, rather than to change my mind about them. I still had SO MUCH self-forgiveness to do.
Being willing to cultivate the humility to admit that I had been teaching principles that I really wasn’t living, inspired me to live them. Cultivating humility is a precious way to turbo-charge our healing. It requires giving up any idea of less than or better than and recognizing only oneness and unity. I used to feel like a fake, but when I focused on cultivating humility, and valuing unity, that feeling of being a fake faded away.
There’s so much I didn’t learn in ministerial school or practitioner training and it’s why I’m so excited to be cultivating a training for ministers and teachers now.
My parents had raised me to be discerning and to trust my own judgment and that’s been helpful to me in my waking up process. The only thing is that there’s a big difference between trusting my judgment and trusting my intuition. Placing my faith in my judgments really didn’t help me.
There came a point when I realized it was time for me to give up trusting in my own perceptions. It was time for me to lay aside all that I worked so hard to cultivate in terms of my own accomplishment in the world and my own perceptions and opinions. It was time for me lay all my understandings, and everything I thought I knew, onto the altar in exchange for a higher understanding.
I’ve been disciplined in order to cultivate the ability to not identify with everything that was happening around me and stay tuned to the Higher Holy Spirit Self. I’m an empath so it was a huge reorientation of my life and my very being to learn how to feel what’s going on around me, but not identify with it. Phew! Perhaps some day I’ll teach a class in that!
We’re always putting our faith in something. Every minute we’re placing our faith in either Love and Spirit or our perceptions, opinions and projections. Where we place our faith determines the quality of our life. We’re either awakening to Spirit or shutting down to Love – and the choice of where we place our faith determines all.
Because we’re making the choice of where to place our faith in each moment, we’re also making a choice to awaken or hit the snooze button.
When we place our faith in our judgments we lose our Peace and we naturally get upset. Because our faith is misplaced, and we think we’re right, we think we’re upset because of what’s happening in the world, but we’re not. We’re actually upset because we’ve, yet AGAIN, placed our faith in ego judgment and mis-perception. Time for course correction! Choose Again.
Doubt is more pervasive than we recognize. Doubt manifests as the experience of lack, illness, depression, relationship challenges, career and creativity limitations and more.
Doubt is the cause and those are just some of it’s effects.
A Course in Miracles tells us that all doubt is self-doubt, but knowing that isn’t the same as eliminating it.
How many of us recognize that our challenges are really issues of doubt?
How many of us are willing, just willing, to recognize that the doubt is self-doubt?
Self-doubt inevitably leads to failure.
Faith in Spirit inevitably leads to success.
And yet, it’s challenging to fully trust God when we don’t fully trust ourselves.
We say we’re going to start our work out, or quit smoking, or give up sugar, or make that important phone call tomorrow. Then tomorrow comes and we don’t keep our agreements with ourselves and then we don’t feel trustworthy and we project it onto God.
In my classes we cultivate a practice of PROVING God.
When we prove spiritual principles work, then we are forever changed by it.
That’s how we start to have more tangible faith and more success in all areas of our life.
It really works and it’s so fulfilling!
I’m in Vermont now for the next few weeks, camping in the Green Mountains at the Sunray Peace Village. I love my tent, I love hearing the sounds of the birds so constant and close. I love the sun beginning to rise at 4:30am. I’ve even had bears sniffing around my tent as I was recording the prayer for the next day! You can picture me trying to google on my phone what kind of bears are in Vermont and what do they eat! Thank God for cell service. (Fortunately, these bears are only looking for food and I don’t have any in my tent.)
The other day I had a really cool experience. I had in my mind to have salad and salmon for dinner. I had it in mind all day. It was my plan. I had meant to go to the store to get the salmon to bring back and cook. I ended up having some long meetings and didn’t get to the store – then it was late, I was getting hangry and needed to eat pretty soon.
So, went into the community kitchen at the Peace Village considering my other food choices when Kathy, whom I hardly know, came in and started cooking and asked me if I’d like to share some salmon. Yes, salmon. Not tuna, not haddock, not veggie burgers, SALMON.
This is instant manifestation. An hour before that, I had extended kindness and generosity to someone because Spirit invited me to. And Spirit took care of my wish for salmon. Bam!
I wished for salmon and I got salmon.
I mean, think about it.
That’s really super specific.
And I’m in a campground, 15 minutes drive to the store.
I barely know this woman who offered me the wild salmon.
Not even farm-raised, wild salmon.
And I felt very happy to receive God’s gift to me.
Because I feel worthy of God’s Love.
And that’s proving God.
I had no attachment to the salmon.
It was just my preference.
I was just fine choosing an alternative, but God made it possible for me to have what I had been thinking of.
This is true spiritual success!
It’s not about the salmon.
It’s about the allowing.
It’s about being at Peace with what is.
And it’s about allowing Spirit to guide us.
I had started to look to see if any of the restaurants in close driving distance had salmon, but they didn’t. So, I let it go, and then it came to me. Sweet!
