On my radio show yesterday, where I was talking about Ending the Patterns of Pain, I was sharing how trust fits into the ending of our pain. Trust is a crucial part of our journey. It really is the foundation. That’s why A Course in Miracles calls it the #1 characteristic of the teachers of God.
Think of it this way: If you’d like to make a fresh start in life, you might need some capital. You might need some cash to invest in your new life. Trust IS that capital.
If we’re starting a new life, a new experience of healing, and revitalization, but we’re bring with us a truckload of debt in the form of old false beliefs, then how will we start that new life?
Through being willing to relinquish the habits that renew the patterns of pain, we are creating the opportunity to start that new life of Love and Joy.
It so often comes back to this from ACIM:
You recognize you want the goal.
Are you not also willing to accept the means?
If you are not, let us admit that you are inconsistent.
A purpose is attained by means,
and if you want a purpose you must be willing to want the means as well.
How can one be sincere and say,
“I want this above all else,
and yet I do not want to learn the means to get it?” T-20.VII.2.
Trust is the means.
Are you willing?
It’s perfectly understandable if you have doubt. Have trust anyway. This is the way to build your faith. Trust anyway.
I love this poem by Mother Theresa:
Do It Anyway
People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind,
people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful,
you will win some false friends and some true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank,
people may cheat you.
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building,
someone could destroy overnight.
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness,
they may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today,
people will often forget tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have,
and it may never be enough.
Give the best you’ve got anyway.
You see,
in the final analysis it is between you and God;
it was never between you and them anyway.
Yes, sometimes having trust in Love, trust in Spirit, is very difficult. Sometimes it is intensely challenging, and it is precisely at these moments that we can have our greatest healing.
Are you willing to feel the fear and trust anyway? If you truly are willing, in what area of your life will you do this? Declare your intention and your willingness in the comments below! I will hold it with you!
Are you interested in this? I haven’t offered Finding Freedom from Fear in almost six months, and I’m thinking offering it soon. I’m considering doing something special next time I offer my class, so that people can do the class with a friend or family member as there is definitely strength in joining with a partner. If you’d like to be on the waiting list so you can join me next time I offer it, you can go here to sign up for the waiting list and I’ll keep you posted.
