Just think how many previous life times we’ve all had where we were laboring almost every waking hour just to survive – hunting and harvesting food, preparing it, washing clothes by hand, doing EVERYTHING by hand, carrying water, focused almost entirely on the basic necessities of life. Consider how many of those lifetimes we wished for just a little more free time. If only we didn’t have to tend the sheep and pick the cotton, weave the fabric and whatever else was necessary in order to be able to make the clothes to wear on our back.
If only we didn’t have to wash all those clothes by hand and mend them time after time. If only we didn’t have to spend so much time preparing the soil to grow the food to sustain us and the animals we tended, in order that we could have food to prepare, cook and eat. If only we had some help with the dishes and the cleaning.
If only we didn’t have to sweep the floors once or twice a day and empty the ashes from the fireplace constantly, and chop and bring in the wood in order to enjoy that fire and keep from freezing to death. If only the soap we used wasn’t so harsh on our skin. If only there was some way to keep our teeth lasting longer. If only there was a machine to make the cappuccino!
If only there was some way we could be educated enough to read and write so that we could discover the sacred texts and write down the stories and thoughts that are always in our minds. If only we could communicate with our far away loved ones more often and feel connected. If only it didn’t take so long to walk to town to get the basic necessities and the news of the day.
For thousands of years, most of us were thinking these thoughts. How many lifetimes we were we enslaved in the mines, in the fields, in households and in all manner of situations where we longed for just the freedom to decide how we would invest our time for one day?
Now, we have all these modern conveniences. How many of us make our clothes from the cotton we grew or the sheep we raised? Not many.
How many of us still wash our clothes or our dishes mostly by hand?
Obviously, you know how to read or you wouldn’t be reading this. If you feel like staying up late reading, you probably can, without fear of running out of electricity or wasting your precious homemade candles or expensive oil.
Running to the store a mile a way to get some milk or bread takes about 10 minutes. If you’d like to call your friend or loved one thousands of miles away or even just on the other side of your home, you can do it instantly. With skype, FaceTime, or WhatsApp, you can even do it at zero cost. AND you can see them!
What an amazing time we live in.
All the lifetimes we longed for freedom of religion and freedom of spiritual practice and almost everyone who is reading this has that freedom and knows it.
This year, let’s really live in appreciation that we’ve actually been able to manifest the ideal circumstances for our spiritual growth, practice and awakening. Every single one of us, no matter how busy we are, can always do less of the meaningless things and more of the meaningFULL things.
It’s really worth contemplating this: What will you invest more of your precious time and energy resources in this day, this week, this month, that can REALLY change your life? What are you actually willing to DO that’s different. Even 1 hour a week can make a huge difference! That would be 52 hours in a year!
Your whole life would really change with an investment in Spirit of just one hour per week of devotional practice and prayer.
We have the freedom to invest wisely – let’s do it!
How will you put Love first all through your day, each minute given to Love is an investment in Prosperity, Joy, Freedom, Wholeness and the all Good of God?
