Rest Comes From Waking

Peace comes from our perspective, not from the world.

I’ve had a weekend of unexpected travel challenges. I was flying from Raleigh, North Carolina via Dallas – Ft. Worth to Santa Barbara to share an end-of-year graduation party with my goddaughter and her family. I arrived in Dallas – Ft. Worth as scheduled around 6 p.m., and had a 1-hour layover before departing for Santa Barbara.

The plane to Santa Barbara was loaded. We taxied down the runway, then the pilot realized there was an issue with navigation, and so they headed back to the gate and deplaned everyone. Three or more hours later they cancelled the flight. They could re-book me in 2 days, but I’d have to either live at the airport or pay for my own hotel for two nights, because the problem with the navigation was solar flares, and that’s not their fault.

By the time I got re-booked, and rerouted through Los Angeles, et cetera, and got to my hotel, it was going on 2 a.m.

Now, my hotel turned out to be the kind of place that a “lady of the evening” might use for a client. It was interesting, to say the least. I thought, “Well, at least I can take a shower and have a nap before I go to the Dallas Love Field Airport at 5:30 a.m. I felt so uncomfortable in that room that I couldn’t really sleep, so I ended up doing lying-down prayers.

I find that when I make prayers for several hours in the night if I cannot sleep, I wake up feeling renewed, anyway.

One of my favorite quotes from A Course in Miracles is “Rest comes from waking, not from sleeping.”

And it’s SO true.

I thought I might have a nap on my three-hour flight to Los Angeles, but not so much. More prayers. And then once I got to L.A. I had to rent a car to drive to Santa Barbara to make my goddaughter’s graduation party. Phew! All went well.

And still, as I write this late Sunday night – the luggage didn’t arrive at the airport as it had been “guaranteed.” Sometime later it will be delivered to the house. At least I don’t have any prescriptions, and there’s nothing in my bags that I have to have. All is well.

All is well. There’s nothing to worry or be concerned about.
A trip that had been scheduled for about 6 hours door-to-door ended up taking about 19 hours, and the baggage arrival is uncertain, but all is still perfectly well.

I’ll get a good night’s sleep, as usual, the rest of the week, and one night without sleep really won’t affect me.

I used to get so anxious if I thought I might not get enough sleep, but now it doesn’t bother me at all. Not at all. Rest comes from waking, not from sleeping, and I’ve proven this, so there’s not one thing to stress about.
Plus, I know for a fact that being stressed will only make things seem “not good.”

ACIM lets me know that everything, everything, everything has been gently planned for my good, and why would I reject my good? I don’t do that anymore.

I’m so grateful I can continuously expand my awareness and enjoy life more, and share the benefits with all!

If there’s anything that has you stressed, would you be able to trade it for awakening awareness?
