One of my favorite A Course in Miracles quotes is “Rest comes from waking, not from sleeping.” I’m certainly proving it this week. I’m participating in a weeklong program of sacred chanting with Snatam Kaur and it goes from 8 a.m. to about 6 p.m. each day – I still have my full time job, teaching, writing and running the ministry, so I’ve been going to bed about 12:30 a.m. and getting up at 5:30. Not quite enough sleep for this girl.
Yet, because of the hours and hours of sacred chanting, I’m feeling great, a little tired, but not exhausted at all. I feel inspired and energized!
That’s the thing about spiritual practice – it has SO MANY benefits.
- Spiritual practice saves time by averting forgiveness lessons.
- Spiritual practice opens us to more efficient and effective uses of our time.
- Spiritual practice aligns us with our answered prayer. and that brings ease and grace to our life.
- Spiritual practice undoes the false beliefs that cause so much suffering.
- Spiritual practice heals us on a cellular level.
And those are just a few of the things that come to mind immediately.
So why don’t we invest more in spiritual practice and less in the things we think will make us happy?
