Sometimes the illusion gets me. I just learned that 1st grade students – I was 5 years old in 1st grade – are having to rehearse being dead so that they can be prepared for a potential shooter in their school.
Last week on the news I was listening to a teacher of very young kids having to work a second job because she doesn’t earn enough on her full-time job to support her family as a single mother. She has to work as an Uber driver, leaving her kids and family at nights and on the weekends. And at school every day, the kids that she teaches are poor kids who are asking her for food because they’re hungry.
And the richest people in the world own enough of our politicians to be able to pay less and less taxes. Our president brags about not paying taxes for years, just like he brags about being a billionaire.
Children in cages.
Guns in schools.
America doesn’t feel like it’s being “made great again.”
And sometimes I just burst into tears when I hear the voice of someone who is experiencing these things. I get caught in the illusion. I feel the cries of humanity, and I just get swept away for a moment.
I don’t allow myself to linger there. I remind myself that “Everything works together for good and there are no exceptions.”
I’ve learned not to stoke the fire of upset. It’s not helpful, and it’s not healing.
I don’t feel I’m inured to the pain and suffering of others, but I have come to learn that all of us sometimes choose to learn through suffering. I have, and so I can have compassion for it and not judge it.
If you get caught in the illusion, remember that we can be far more helpful holding the high watch and affirming the truth.
“Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists.”
We are part of a field of perfect Love and our perfection is intact always. We suffer only when we forget that.
I forgot for a moment, and I wept for those who cry. I’m having a human experience. That’s okay.
Others are having a human experience, and they are experiencing it as violent, racist, sexist, misogynist and more. We all choose our path. There’s nothing random, nothing that’s not part of our script.
For me, I’m focusing on moving into the highest possibilities of my script and helping others to do the same. When I get caught, I tell myself the truth. I pray. I give thanks for that which is eternal, infinite and always loving.
What do you do when you get caught in the illusion?
