Forgiveness relieves suffering of every kind. There is no form that suffering can take that cannot be relieved by the act of choosing forgiveness.
The challenge is that there is so much confusion about forgiveness, what it is and how it works. It’s much simpler than we think.
Forgiveness is simply this – releasing the opinions, judgments, and meaning we’ve made of things.
We think we’re upset because someone did something we don’t like, but that’s the illusion. It’s a pure delusion. And buying into that illusion IS suffering.
For much of my life, I blamed others for all of my upsets and problems. I projected it all out onto other people and situations. I thought that would relieve my suffering.
Little did I know, it only magnified and multiplied my pain.
The real cause of our upset is the decision to attack our brothers and sisters, rather than to fulfill our purpose, which is to bless them and to receive as we have given.
When we choose the thoughts that attack and condemn, we will suffer. If we didn’t suffer as a result, there would be no alarm, no warning. We’d fall down the rabbit hole and keep going with no way to recognize our error.
Right now, in this holy instant, we can drop all of the blocks to Love and recognize the truth in this beautiful passage from A Course in Miracles which I’ve laid out like a poem.
How can you who are so holy suffer?
All your past except its beauty is gone,
and nothing is left but a blessing.
I have saved all your kindnesses
and every loving thought you ever had.
I have purified them of the errors that hid their light,
and kept them for you in their own perfect radiance.
They are beyond destruction and beyond guilt.
They came from the Holy Spirit within you,
and we know what God creates is eternal.
You can indeed depart in peace because
I have loved you as I loved myself.
You go with my blessing and for my blessing.
Hold it and share it, that it may always be ours.
I place the peace of God in your heart
and in your hands, to hold and share.
The heart is pure to hold it,
and the hands are strong to give it.
We cannot lose.
My judgment is as strong as the wisdom of God,
in Whose Heart and Hands we have our being.
His quiet children are His blessed Sons.
The Thoughts of God are with you.
~ A Course in Miracles, T-5.IV.8.
We are perfect Love and we are perfectly loved. All that remains is for us to accept it. This is the true Self-forgiveness. Every moment we have this opportunity to let the past go by releasing the meaning we made of it and by releasing the idea that what occurred in the past has defined us.
Our experiences do not define us.
Our choices do not define us.
Our Unity with God defines us. Nothing else can.
We’ve made meaning of our life, and being that is false. We project it onto others and think they are the problem. There is no problem. ALL of our problems have been solved. Yet if we hold the idea we have problems, we are sure to experience them. And then we look for someone to blame.
This is what we can forgive ourselves for and MOVE ON.
Forgiveness is the path of Joy, awakening, and Prosperity.
This I know.
And that is why I’m offering my Forgive & Be Free class, in 3 parts, starting tomorrow. Let’s do this sacred work joyfully, and JoyFULLY together!
