What is the most wonderful thing you’ve EVER done for yourself? For me, I am clear that the very best thing I’ve ever done for myself is to deepen my spiritual practice to include prayer, and also to release the judgments that used to run and rule my life. (Note: I must confess I still have more judgments to let go of. Onward and upward!)
I’ve been a Spiritual Counselor for nearly 20 years, and one of the things I’ve encountered again and again with spiritual students is a sense of hopelessness.
Yes, you read that right. Hopelessness among spiritual students is a bit of a secret. People don’t like to talk about it, because feeling destitute isn’t very spiritual.
Waking up with a feeling of dread for the day, or for life itself, isn’t very spiritual – or so we think – but it IS quite common.
Also, spiritual students don’t like to talk about their feelings of hopelessness because they feel like a failure.
And then there’s the fear of making it worse by talking about it. (What you think about you bring about. Yikes!)
Burying our feelings isn’t healing and it isn’t helpful
Fortunately, there’s a way of talking about our feelings that’s healing.
I like to call it “Bringing it to the Light.”
When we can talk about the worst of times, the deep fears and self-judgments, the very most devastating experiences with someone who has true compassion, great loving, and understanding, then the festering wound can be exposed to the Light of healing and restoration. The pattern can dissolve.
And, very importantly, we can harvest the learning.
We don’t really learn from books – we learn from our life.
When we have a strong spiritual practice of non-judgment and forgiveness, every day brings beautiful and helpful learning.
I know A LOT about this because I’ve been practicing it for more than 20 years.
This profound healing that can take place through being able to bring to the Light our darkest fears and disappointments is the Power of Love operating in our hearts and minds. It’s the gift we can give to another and it’s the gift we can share.
When we have healing, everyone has healing, because all minds are joined.
All boats rise on this tide of Love and Light.
It’s at this time of year that I’m feeling how many people are avoiding taking stock us that we have a “fear to look within.” We think we’re afraid of what we might see.
But it’s not that. That’s only the appearance.
The real issue is the judgments of what we might see that are so painful and hurtful – and that’s what we’re avoiding.
The thing is, I have yet to meet even one person who doesn’t feel they’re damaged goods in some way. I have yet to meet one person whose life experience doesn’t kick their butt – and HARD.
This is especially true of spiritual students, because we say we’re on a path of awakening but many of us are barely on it. Tiny little drips of progress, and it’s because we’ve decided that it’s too hard, that it’s too big, and we’re too small and too weak to attain to it.
Not true, but still we believe it, so it FEELS true.
This past week, a friend of mine passed away. His name is Laurence Bartlett and he was in class with me for a number of years. He was on a path of awakening and he was quite intent on it.
I remember at the end of his first year in Masterful Living we had our end of the year 1-on-1 check-in and he told me one of the best things he gained from the year in class was that now he felt like he got to keep his “a-ha’s.”
In the past, when he’d have a breakthrough insight it, would dissolve and fade as if it had never happened in the first place. Now, through his deepening practice in Masterful Living, he could hold onto his insights, and that meant a great deal to him.
Laurence is a remarkable person who didn’t lose sight of the goal of awakening. Even though things in his life were sometimes unbearably challenging, like the death of his partner, he kept this eye on the spiritual prize and it brought him so much benefit. I’m quite certain that Laurence has achieved his goal of awakening.
I don’t think he’ll have to incarnate again, unless he’d like to. What a gift to share with all humanity!
We are ALL on a path of awakening, and we can all be more firmly placed on it. The #1 thing for us to do is to give up the idea that it’s not possible for us. If it’s possible for anyone, it’s possible for everyone.
Each year in Masterful Living, people start the year firmly entrenched in the belief that it cannot work for them because they don’t have what it takes. It’s quite wonderful that often times the ones who have the most breakthroughs, shifts, and success are the same ones who were most entrenched in their feelings of lack and limitation. Victory!
Lack and limitation are false constructs that have no power.
Love is the only Power.
This year, let us collectively DECIDE to abandon this false belief of unworthiness and limitation. Let us commit to giving up the blame and guilt. Both beliefs are based on something that’s not true and will never be true.
It’s our job to make this decision to forgo the false.
One year I set my intention for the year to be “unbotherable”. It was challenging, but so worthwhile. In my New Year’s Reboot class on January 1, I’ll be inviting you to decide what your focus will be for the year. Pick something that seems impossible, and then put Spirit in charge.
We can do this if we let Spirit do the heavy lifting of figuring out HOW. Our job is to hold the vision and ALLOW it to unfold. This is a mind-training. We can’t get there with just wishing and hoping.
We must be vigilant, and we can be.
Have you ever been vigilant about something? Maybe, as a child, you wanted a new bicycle. Maybe you had a particular career in mind. Maybe there was a difficult exam. Maybe you had a personal best you were working towards.
Most of us have had something that we put our whole heart into, that wasn’t driven by ego, and we succeeded beyond what we’d hoped. That’s what I’m talking about.
Each year in Masterful Living, people have AMAZING results because the put their whole heart into it. It doesn’t mean that we don’t fall down. It means that we DO get up again. Falling down is part of the learning. It brings us humility, and we must have the humility to awaken from the ego dream.
Everything is part of the plan. We judge nothing in order to succeed.
Are you ALL-IN for this extraordinary year that is the road rising up to meet us?
You may wish to check out my End My Self-Sabotage 6 Day challenge on January 2nd. The first 2 days are my gift to you and open to everyone. For everyone in Masterful Living, it’s a BONUS class.
Will you hold a vision of Love and healing for yourself this year?
Will you be that compassionate support to yourself and others, proving that Love is the only true healer?
What a great opportunity lies before us. We are so blessed to be on this adventure together!
Every day I offer “My Shot of Spiritual Espresso”. I write spiritual inspiration and record a prayer for our healing. Prayer is a power tool for our liberation. The Prayer for Today is for Holding A Vision of Love. We use technology to transcend time and space, and deepen our spiritual practice and connect with each other. Our spiritual practice is our path of liberation, and that’s beautiful to share!
Learning to hold a healing vision is just one of the things we learn in my yearlong Masterful Living Course. We actively practice healing the deep sense of unworthiness that most spiritual students suffer from. If you feel called, come join us in 2020 for the best year of your life – the year that changes EVERYTHING, if you’re willing. Let’s do it together. They have accomplished what they never believed they could do because they gave themselves a chance, and they didn’t give up. You can do it, too.
