On Friday, I was driving to my morning Pilates class and listening to Samantha Bee’s show, “Full Frontal”. She was talking about the politics of the week, and she’d recorded it before Elizabeth Warren dropped out of the presidential race. As I pulled into Pilates, I was surprised to find myself crying.
This isn’t going to be about politics. It’s about attachments to our hopes and dreams.
It tells us not to try to change the world, but to change our minds about the world as the ONLY effective path to change. I work that teaching in my mind and heart every single day of my life.
And still, I really, REALLY do wish to see a change in this world.
My life is committed to it. I am dedicated to it.
I know people all over the world read this daily blog, and the Power of Love Ministry serves people in over 100 countries. So you may not be aware that Elizabeth Warren was a progressive liberal woman candidate running for president who left the race on Thursday leaving, essentially, two white men in their 70’s, both of whom I like. But still, I would like to see more diversity everywhere in my life. I LOVE diversity.
Maybe it’s because when I was a little girl my parents were social activists, and we lived in a housing development established as part of the “War on Poverty” where there were only a few white families, and I didn’t see a lot of white people except for my family until we moved to the next place.
My whole life, whenever I’ve been in a room full of all white people I feel uncomfortable. I don’t feel at home. I like all kinds of diversity. I like the diversity of ideas and backgrounds. I like the rainbow of colors and kinds.
I remember going to a Bruce Springsteen concert in the early 1980s out at Giants Stadium in New Jersey, and when he sang “Born in the U.S.A.” an entire stadium of about 80,000 very white people were singing “born in the USA” with fists pumping in the air. I became concerned. I had thoughts of Nazi Germany and it was very surreal.
So, on Friday morning I was crying in the Pilates parking lot. I like a lot about Elizabeth Warren’s plans to make changes, and I do notice that I have a strong attachment to changing the way things are run in this world.
Later in the day, my thoughts drifted to Elizabeth Warren’s leaving the race, and I found myself starting to cry several times. I remembered her pinkie promise, which makes me cry all over again as I write this.
Still, each day I know that the cause of my sadness, my tears, is that I believe that things should be different than they are. I’m willing to heal that belief.
Sometimes we have to grieve the loss of what we dearly wanted and cannot have at this moment. Grief is not to be put aside and pushed down. It’s to be expressed. (We have a “Grief Support” class coming right up this month! Click here to learn more.)
I absolutely KNOW, with all of my heart, that everything works together for good and there are no exceptions. I pray for the highest and best for EVERYONE because I know that we are One with each other, and the highest and best for ANYONE has to be the highest and best for EVERYONE. I know it to be true, even though it seems illogical when you look at children in cages and other policies that seem to be cruel and unloving.
What I’m working for is a world that works for everyone.
I’d like a president that DEEPLY cares about the poor and disenfranchised, what Jesus would call “the least of them.”
This is the world that I hold in my mind, and I’m so grateful that I can hold that vision.
So today, I work to release my attachments to how I wish it would be or how I think it should be, and I hold the vision of what I call the “Golden Age of Enlightenment” dawning in our minds — all of our minds, with no one left out.
Over my 35 years of spiritual studies, the thing in the world that has helped me the most is my Spiritual Counselors. They helped me come back into my right mind when I was so intensely judgmental and couldn’t let it go. They helped me to live from my heart.
In 2014, I started to offer Spiritual Counseling Training and Certification for Spiritual Counselors, and it’s my joy now to announce we have certified two more Spiritual Counselors! Woo-hoo!
The program we’ve developed at the Power of Love Ministry is not easy and it’s not quick. It requires a lot of work, much of it very deep inner work. It requires 111 practice sessions.
These two women have done all of that and MUCH more to finish their Spiritual Counseling Certification.
Please help me congratulate Vanessa and Kathryn! I’m so grateful for their leadership, commitment, and excellence!
What a blessing they are to our community, and to their counseling clients and their families.
It’s been my joy to witness their dedication to their own personal transformation and healing, and to naturally share it with others to great success.
That’s how Spirit works.
All are called to be a loving and healing presence.
Vanessa and Kathryn have answered that call magnificently.
They are models of what is possible when we put Spirit in charge.
These two beautiful and brilliant women have been deeply and intensely challenged over their lifetime, as we all have, and challenges continue for all of us. But when we are co-workers with God, our work is joyful and brings the great benefit that we can share with others.
Whenever anyone decides to put the past behind and proceed with a loving heart, all are lifted. There’s power in that. There’s momentum.

Folks who are in Finding Freedom From Fear with me or Masterful Living, or other programs, regularly work with these beautiful counselors and have received extraordinary benefits from it. They all have wonderful testimonials!
Today we say a strong “Yes!” to being an active part of bringing forth the “Golden Age of Enlightenment”. Everything we need is with in us!
