I keep hearing from people who live alone that this quarantine time is really challenging. I can understand that. Especially if you’re not employed and working from home. And even more so if you’re health means that you feel it’s not safe for you to do things like go to the store, or go for a walk with a friend even with social distancing. I get it.
One of the things I’ve been thinking about this week, and talking about in classes, is the tendency we sometimes have to gravitate to the melancholy. I can remember when I used to like to listen to sad songs and feel sad, watch sad movies and think sad thoughts.
I used to like to feel sorry for myself and angry at the world.
I used to be a world-class complainer.
I could listen to sad songs for hours and sing along and listen to them all over again and sing along all over again, amplifying that low vibration and feeling so self-important at the same time.
For me, it was specialness.
My pain made me special.
Or so I thought.
A huge shift in my life happened when I began to focus on extending thoughts of Love and compassion to replace my focus on feeling like a victim, and the judgments I had about myself and others.
Eliminating judgments gave me a chance to focus on higher vibrational thoughts.
Now, when I hear one of those sad songs, without even thinking about it, I change the channel. I’m not a match for it anymore.
Happiness is a choice. It’s not a result of circumstances. It’s a result of choosing happiness.
It’s not possible to choose sad songs and angry tv shows while also extending compassion and Love.
We must choose one or the other.
If we’re watching things on television that bring us down and leave us feeling depleted, it’s time to turn off the TV and see what we can do to be helpful.
If we tell Spirit we’d rather be helpful, Spirit will lead, guide and direct us.
Our willingness is required.
I love that John Krasinski decided to start making these SOME GOOD NEWS videos and publishing them, just because he could. Here’s the first one for you to enjoy!
