Don’t Bring Me Down

We can live a happy life if we choose it.

I used to believe that other people could bring me down.

I truly believed that other people’s “energy” could bring me down. People talk about this as though it’s a real thing.

Similarly, I’ve had many, many people come to me as a spiritual counselor because they are so bothered by someone they’re in a relationship with and they’re blaming the difficulty in the relationship entirely on the other person.

Blaming other people for bringing us down, or for ruining our relationships is an abdication of responsibility AND it’s also a guarantee that we will not find more than fleeting happiness.

A Course in Miracles is very clear on this subject in the section of the Text entitled, “Responsibility for Sight,” where it says:

“This is the only thing that you need do for vision, happiness, release from pain and the complete escape from sin, all to be given you.

Say only this, but mean it with no reservations, for here the power of salvation lies:

I am responsible for what I see.

I choose the feelings I experience,

and I decide upon the goal I would achieve.

And everything that seems to happen to me I ask for,

and receive as I have asked.

Deceive yourself no longer that you are helpless in the face of what is done to you. Acknowledge but that you have been mistaken, and all effects of your mistakes will disappear.”

When we’re saying that someone else can bring us down we’re deceiving ourselves.

And we’re not taking responsibility for how we feel.

I’ve learned that in order to feel happy most of the time, I have to recognize that I am the one who chooses how I will feel, because I am the one who chooses how I will interpret what’s happening in my life.

I choose to be happy.  It’s worth it.  I’m worth it.

We are not victims of life.

We are the ones who are generating our life.

Life is not happening to us, but we can deceive ourselves into believing that it is.

I never would have believed that taking total responsibility, with zero blame, would be my path to happiness.  I blamed everyone else for every problem that I had.  I did that for many years and it never, ever made me happy.  There’s my proof.

I say, PROVE GOD in your life.

Prove the principles.

Prove the teachings.

Find out what’s true and what’s not.

When you’ve proved it, you KNOW the truth.

Knowing the truth is LIBERATION.

Today is our liberation day.  The moment is now!
