The ego thought system is always oppositional to living a life of Love, the life we’d like.
It’s easy to get tricked into giving up. I used to feel that way, temporarily, on a very regular basis. Maybe not every day, but a few times a week.
I’d get overwhelmed with my thoughts and the feelings they’d trigger in me.
I find that most people I speak with are a lot like me. We’ve become so convinced that our value comes from what we produce that we believe we have to produce A LOT to be worthwhile. It’s so ingrained in us, especially in the American culture.
Just being loving in our relationships, and to ourselves, that’s not enough for the ego. And yet being loving truly is the most productive thing we can be.
I can remember my cycles of self-medication would begin with feeling that this world was just too much, and my feeling was too much and then I’d just want to escape them. I’d pick my “poisons” of excessive exercise, work, alcohol, eating, watching TV, talking on the phone, and then when I’d gone down the hole felt like a complete spiritual failure, that’s when I’d imagine people talking about me after I’d died.
I’d fantasize about telling someone to give a message to people after I’d died. The message was “tell them I tried. I really tried, but I just couldn’t do it.”
At the moment that I’d think that thought, I’d feel like I was disappearing into a quagmire of sinking sand engulfing me and sucking me down.
I felt helpless and hopeless.
The next day I’d wake up feeling ashamed and discouraged.
More failure. More proof that I wasn’t good enough for God.
Fortunately, it was never too late and all of that has changed.
I’m 100% clear that it changed because I kept going.
I’ve learned that the two most important pieces of recovery from this ego insanity are to be in a real relationship with Spirit, to get in the relationship, and BE in it. To connect with Spirit all throughout the day and say, “you decide for me. You take care of this. I’ll follow your lead.”
I got out of being in charge of my life and I abdicated authority to the Higher Holy Spirit Self.
Second, I did the rigorous self-forgiveness work to clear my mind of the BS (belief systems).
That combo, along with A LOT of prayers really worked for me and is working for so many others.
You can do these on your own, that’s what I did. But will you? If you’re waiting, what are you waiting for?
Maybe you’d like company.
That’s why I started offering this End My Self-SabotageChallenge. We can do this deep work together and remember to laugh.
We started yesterday. The first week is free, and you can still join us. If you feel like you’ve been playing small, sabotaging yourself, self-medicating, and feeling overwhelmed, this may be the breakthrough for you.
It’s definitely not too late.
I’m even offering daily spiritual practice LIVE on ZOOM with me. I’m giving this my all!
Doing the healing work that we’re doing in the 1st week of the challenge requires strength and courage. It’s no joke.
In the past, there’s been SO MUCH healing for those who participated – many are doing it again.
We can do this together and set ourselves free from the pain of repeating the patterns that perpetuate our suffering.
There are so many forms of self-medication and there’s one suited to each personality. Each one brings with it a bucket of shame.
Let’s clear out that shame and guilt.
All spiritual students who haven’t done the work feel guilty and ashamed because they know they’re supposed to be bringing more Light to the world and they’re not fulfilling their function.
I’ve found that when we work on this issue together in the community a lot of healing comes and we can actually let go long-entrenched habits that most people spend a lifetime struggling with.
Accept my gift. Struggle no more!
Honestly, I never thought I’d get past the struggle with self-medication and self-sabotage, but I did – because of my spiritual practices. And that’s what I’d like to share with you.
