I remember when I read Gandhi’s autobiography more than 30 years ago there was a story of how at a press conference a journalist asked him what he thought about a particular topic. After Gandhi stated his point of view, the journalist accused him of changing his mind – as if that were a bad thing.
In response, Gandhi basically said he’d be a fool if he stuck to his old opinion when he had new insights and information that had changed his mind.
That story has stuck with me because I used to be very rigid about never admitting I was wrong or had misperceived things.
Being able to easily acknowledge when I’m wrong or when I don’t understand or know something is one of the simple things that makes my life easier.
I feel like a different person entirely from the person I used to be. Thank God.
I can remember the burning churning feeling I’d have when I couldn’t admit I was wrong. I knew I was wrong, but I just couldn’t admit it.
I didn’t understand then what the real reason was that it was so hard for me to admit I was wrong or that I didn’t know something.
The real reason was that I felt so deeply wrong inside myself, that any acknowledgement of being wrong about something, no matter how small, was just too much for me.
It wasn’t that I was egotistical in the sense of thinking I was better than others. I thought I was not as good as others and so I couldn’t bear the evidence.
I was that close to the edge.
And I lived that way for decades.
All that’s over now.
It can’t get triggered anymore because it’s gone. Thank God.
The only way I know to have this kind of permanent healing is through spiritual practice.
Managing and coping with upset isn’t necessary. We can have true and lasting healing.
I didn’t even dream it was possible for me, and now I know it’s possible for all of us.
STARTS MONDAY Jan 24 – Register now! My Masterful Living Program supports people in establishing an effective spiritual practice. It’s not intellectual. It’s from the heart. It’s about loving ourselves so much that we eliminate the habits and thought patterns that keep us in worry, doubt and fear. We use real tools that actually work to undo these chains that bind us to keep repeating the past.
In my year-long Masterful Living Course a number of people have healed these self-destructive habits such as rehearsing disappointment, failure, depression, and addiction. Many have gone off anti-depressants, let go of old hurts and sadness that has troubled them, even chronic pain seems to disappear for many.
I share what I learned that shifted me out of my habits of ignoring my intuition and all the healing opportunities that God gave me in my Masterful Living Course 2022. At no charge you can also book an exploratory call to speak with one of the spiritual counselors who has already done the program and they can help you be clear if this is right for you right now.
