Lots of people are feeling agitated right now.
The cause is not in the world.
The cause of our agitation is our thoughts about the world.
And we can change our mind about the world.
I used to be an agitator. I would intentionally agitate people I felt intimidated by. It gave me a sense of power in the moment with a big guilt and shame hangover that I didn’t even comprehend.
I didn’t realize that my poking other people was why I would feel that there was something wrong with me. If only someone could have told me, but no one around me understood it either.
We’re never upset for the reason we think.
I’ve learned to become very mindful of when I feel inclined to say something that would agitate someone intentionally. If I can see the thought, and it’s consequences, as it arises in my awareness, then I can catch it, release it and replace it with a love offering. And that’s my practice now.
It is highly destructive to say and do things that we know will agitate others. Intentionally fanning the flames of someone’s upset will lead to a deep sense of not being worthy of Love.
In order to prevent ourselves from feeling unworthy of Love we can make a commitment to stop being an agitator and to instead be a peacemaker.
This is deeply healing to all because it means we go from teaching hatred to teaching Love. We’re then modeling the way for others to see.
We really can BE the Peace we’d like to see in the world. I’m grateful we’re doing it together!
