We can find and feel the good in difficult situations.
Yesterday I took Bodhi to dog training lessons – we’re in a series of 5 classes. I’m not sure why, but she’s not enjoying it. I think it’s possible there’s something about the room we’re doing the lessons in that triggers her, because she wants to be by the door.
In our class yesterday she didn’t really engage much. She wanted to play with the other dogs, but that wasn’t an option. So, that was frustrating for her.
Bodhi really dislikes the heat, and yesterday was hot. We were in air conditioning, and the 45 min drive there I had the AC on because of her. Still, it affects her when it’s a hot day and it was in the 90’s.
The teacher agreed with me that it was best to not try to force her. I let her lie by the door and I sat with her. I didn’t mind. I felt a bit badly because she wasn’t enjoying herself, but I knew the best thing I could do was just be with her and be peaceful. I didn’t want to take her out of the class or leave. We just sat. At times she became interested in watching the other dogs, and other times, she just wanted to zone out.
I was okay with whatever was working for her.
There was a time when I would have felt badly about the situation. It would have really bothered me. But now I know that everything works together for our good. And I don’t know what anything is for. I don’t know what Bodhi’s experience is for, but I trust it’s for our good.
I was willing to sit peacefully, finding and feeling the good in the situation.
What Bodhi gets to clearly feel and experience is my Love for her and that I don’t need to make her perform or do something to make me happy. It’s for both our good or it’s not worthwhile.
