Aversions

Monday, September 14th, 2020

I used to have an aversion to people who seemed weak, timid or afraid. It would bring up my own fear of being weak. I didn’t know that’s why I had the aversion, but that’s how this mirroring thing works.

What I also didn’t realize was that my many, MANY aversions were a huge distraction for me. Getting triggered, annoyed, upset, irritated and frustrated as well as taking offense on a daily basis ate up a lot of my time and energy. It also kept me swimming in a low vibrational pool of negativity of my own making.

I blamed everyone else, so I didn’t see a way out of it – until I was willing.

Do you have an aversion to people who act in a certain way?

I literally would feel this intense need to get away from people who were insecure. It was almost as if it were some kind of thing that I could catch – and that thought terrified me. Now, I’m aware that the reason it was so bothersome to me is that it was my own insecurities being reflected to me.

My insecurities were intolerable for me. I had so little self-compassion.

All of that began to change when I decided to focus on being compassionate for others.

As I was able to extend love to others, I could begin to have some love for myself. A little bit of love goes a long way.

This is why each act of loving kindness that we can extend to others opens our heart and helps us to be more available to the good in life. AND I learned that the way to heal an aversion is to have compassion. It works!

Life is SO much better without aversions.

Now, I use my time and energy for things that are enjoyable and productive. That makes my life worthwhile.

Now, I can see that my aversions kept me playing small, living in lack and limitation.

Next time your mind drifts to attacking someone, or even yourself, see if you can remember this and extend some compassion to welcome more good in your life. It’s a powerful spiritual practice that we can take with us every moment of every day!

Have you seen the direct results of having a practice of extending Love and compassion? Please tell us about it and share in the comments below! Thank you!

Aversion to Fear

Friday, September 4th, 2020

I used to have an aversion to people who were anxious and nervous and worried. I felt as though they could possibly transmit their fear to me and that I’d catch it – and I didn’t want it. I would have a strong visceral reaction when people were nervous and scared around me. I really couldn’t stand it.

It had nothing to do with them, and everything to do with me.

I had no compassion, wisdom or understanding for my own fears.

It was my own fears that scared me – and I was triggered by the very slightest hint of another’s fears.

Of course, anyone who’s paying attention can tell who is afraid and who isn’t. The bully seems tough, but deep down, they are FAR more terrified than the person who appears nervous. The person who seems angry and pushy is acting from deep seated fear.

Now, I can see that the feeling of aversion to other people’s worry and fear was that I already had plenty of my own and I didn’t want to take on anymore. To me, feeling afraid was a failure. Back then, I’d rather have experienced many difficulties than let anyone know I felt fear.

Now, I can feel the fear, and hand it over to the Higher Holy Spirit Self and move on.

I’m not afraid of fear anymore.

I feel so grateful that I can ever be of assistance to someone who is feeling afraid or worried. If you meet someone who is anxious, I encourage you to do what you can to support them. Sometimes it’s best to simply pray silently and send a smile.

I remember a decade ago when I was on a silent Vipassana retreat for 10 days, and one of the women in my bunk house (there were 11 of us) was in her late 20’s. We weren’t supposed to look at other people. We were to keep our gaze inward and focused on our own awareness, but it was difficult not to notice this young woman was crying a lot. She was really processing a lot of guilt and shame, or so it seemed to me.

At one point, I looked at her when she was crying, and seeming to be quite miserable with herself, and I simply winked. I winked to let her know, “this too shall pass.” It was a small gesture, but I meant it with a great deal of Love and support. At the end of the ten days of silent meditation, she told me that it had meant a lot to her.

Spirit guides us.
All the time.

We get nudges to say or do something and sometimes it seems out of character or out of step, but I’ve learned to do it anyway.

I’d rather listen to Spirit and be in tune with that voice than listen to the ego and be in lockstep with its endless demands.

What is the intuitive nudge that you’ve been getting that you’re not listening to? Will you be willing to follow your intuition today?

I’m getting ready for my Stop Playing Small Online Retreat in just 2 weeks. If you’d really like to do this healing work of letting go of complaints and the other things that stand in our way of happiness and Peace, consider joining us. You can change your entire life, your relationships, your experience, your finances, your body, your happiness and peace of mind. Consider this:

Trading Fear for Joy

Monday, August 10th, 2020

We frighten ourselves. We do. And we do it on purpose.

Some of us have trained ourselves to not rise above worry, anxiety, fear, sadness, or some other emotional state.

There can be many reasons for why we’re living this way.

To me, it doesn’t really matter why we’re being dysfunctional and living in fear or some other lower emotional state. I used to be fascinated with people’s psychological states and how they got there. I was so interested in people’s stories and tales of woe and how they had come to their conclusions that they weren’t good enough, or some other self-perception that was completely false.

Now, I can see that I was living from my intellect, always curious about other people’s patterns of “disinformation” about themselves so that I could be distracted from my own patterns. It’s not the case anymore.

Since Love is the healer, and only Love can heal whatever my issues are, analyzing how I got here isn’t helpful.

Only Love is helpful. I focus on how I can be loving to myself and others. It brings tremendous fruit! And fulfillment!

Are you analytical like me?
Do you feel safer living in your head than in your heart?

There’s a lot of us, and we can all be transformed by the Higher Holy Spirit Self. All we have to do is realize that our true heart’s desire is to live from the heart, ask the HHSS for support in living from the heart, and then follow the guidance until it feels easier and easier.

Before too long we will have changed our way of being in reaction and living in our intellect.

It brings such Joy and it puts an end to fear.

It’s so worth it. And our willingness is all that’s required.

Let’s be as willing as we can be to change our mind, be kind and remember to laugh. Our spiritual practice transforms the world!

Undoing Fear

Thursday, July 9th, 2020

I can remember when I would have shock waves of fear that seemed to shoot through me like lightning waves.  I’d have a thought that would produce a rush of adrenaline and an energetic shock that moved through me in a way that my heart would start racing instantly.  The worst was late at night or first thing in the morning.

Once I had a mild panic attack that was a whole different kind of fear but felt almost foundational – like my very core was threatened.

If only someone could have told me then what I now know!  And A Course in Miracles says it so well:

“All fear is ultimately reducible to the basic misperception that you have the ability to usurp the power of God.”  ACIM T-2.I.4.

I understand that it seems hard to believe that all fear comes from judging, and from thinking thoughts that are untrue.

It can seem as though fear comes from what’s happening in the world.  It can seem like there’s a monster out there that’s upsetting us, but all of the causes or fear are in our own mind.

Our opinions are what’s frightening us.

When we affirm our judgments and opinions we’re affirming that we’re the ones who decide who is good and who is bad, who is right and who is wrong, and in doing so we become the usurpers.  We’re usurping God.  We become guilty of spiritual patricide.  And that’s really scary.

We can train our mind to see beyond appearances and recognize only the truth, or we can continue to learn to live with fear and bend ourselves to it’s uncomfortable distortions of reality.  I move that we love ourselves enough to stop frightening ourselves and live in Peace.

Consider if there’s someone in your life that you really love and adore – would you yell at them?  Frighten them?  Torture them?  Manipulate them?

You wouldn’t do those things if you truly loved them.  Those behaviors have nothing to do with Love.  They are the distorted behaviors that fear brings.

Let’s undo the patterns of fear in our own mind so that we unwind the pattern in all minds!

What judgment do you have that could possibly be worth holding onto when you know that it will cause your own suffering?  Think of all the things you’ve done to try to end your suffering that haven’t really worked.

Would you try the one thing that actually works?

Or do you feel that you can have your judgments and the fear you experience is unrelated?

I don’t think I could have believed giving up my opinions would relieve me of fear.  I only know that it works because I have been giving up my judgments as part of my daily spiritual practice for more than a decade and as a result, I don’t have much fear.  Most of the fear I experience these days is annoyance.

I can’t remember the last time I felt one of those shock waves of fear, but I can remember feeling joyous and grateful yesterday.  I feel grateful and thankful even now as I write this.

I let God be God.  I am part of God, and I don’t need to judge anything or anyone anymore.  I’m not interested in being a usurper.  I prefer to feel free and harmonious ALL of the time.  I am intent on it.  I am closer to my goal every day!  And for this, I am so very grateful!  I am loving myself free of lack, attack and limitation.  It’s happening now!

Fear and Self-Deception

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2020

Oh, my goodness! The fear that self-deception brings along with it is INTENSE!

Looking back, I can see that when I deceived myself about anything, I was contributing to my own sense of instability.

What do we deceive ourselves about?

Many times it’s about how people feel about us. We just can’t handle what we feel is really going on, so we look the other way.

I’ve done that.

I’ve let someone treat me poorly because I pretended not to notice.
I couldn’t handle the truth.

I’ve deceived myself about jobs I had, that I didn’t really feel good about. I pretended that I liked it more than I did, even to myself.

I’ve been upset with situations I didn’t like and deceived myself by blaming it on other people. I made them the bad guy. In truth, I was sent into that situation to improve it and make it better.

I’ve learned that if I don’t like the way something is, I don’t give up on it and walk away, I stay and do my best to make it better.

I hold the vision of God’s perfection in the situation. If the others won’t join me, and aren’t interested, then I can take my loving view somewhere else, but I still don’t give up.

I am here to be TRULY helpful. It’s true, humanity can seem like a hot mess, but it’s also the most gorgeous mosaic of exploration.

We’re the prodigal son, finding our way back home.

We are both the children AND we’re the parents in that story.

We have to welcome ourselves back home and each other. And that, to me, is beautiful. REALLY stunningly beautiful.

I wouldn’t miss this for anything!
I am willing to learn to LOVE completely, without conditions.
It’s a hell of a ride!

If you think you might be deceiving yourself, or managing and coping with fear, you might like my Finding Freedom From Fear, Spiritual Bootcamp class with ACIM principles. I haven’t offered this class in 9 months – this is your chance if you’d like to join me and GO FOR IT!

Fear as a Motivator

Saturday, May 9th, 2020

Have you ever used fear to motivate yourself to get something accomplished? Of course you have! We’ve all done it.

Fear is a powerful motivator.

What’s important for us to realize is that we can choose to motivate ourselves with fear, or we can inspire ourselves with a vision of our holiness.

We really can choose one or the other.

It’s just that the fear is so familiar and we know exactly how it goes so we can choose fear in our sleep, whereas the vision of holiness requires us to wake up and smell the spiritual espresso.

I love this passage from A Course in Miracles. It inspires me every time! It offers a vision of our holiness and the way to live without fear. It’s clear and it’s inviting.

God is praised whenever any mind learns to be wholly helpful. This is impossible without being wholly harmless, because the two beliefs must coexist. The truly helpful are invulnerable, because they are not protecting their egos and so nothing can hurt them. Their helpfulness is their praise of God, and He will return their praise of Him because they are like Him, and they can rejoice together. God goes out to them and through them, and there is great joy throughout the Kingdom. Every mind that is changed adds to this joy with its individual willingness to share in it. The truly helpful are God’s miracle workers, whom I direct until we are all united in the joy of the Kingdom. I will direct you to wherever you can be truly helpful, and to whoever can follow my guidance through you. T-4.VII.8.

Let’s decide to be wholly helpful. What have we got to loose?

We will only loose the causes of our suffering and the suffering those causes produce. It feels like a great exchange.

Our willingness is ALL that’s required.

No hidden charges, no extra fees. The whole thing is ours for the asking and receiving.

Today’s the day!

When We Feel Threatened

Tuesday, April 14th, 2020

When we feel threatened, our faith and trust is in our own discernment as well as in our own ability to defend and protect ourselves. When that happens, our faith is misplaced.

We can dread feeling fear. We can dislike feeling fear. We can medicate or distract ourselves so that we don’t feel the fear, but that would be just another way of affirming that our perspective, and our opinions are correct when they are not.

If what we believed was actually true, we’d be at Peace.

The very fact that we’re experiencing fear is the indicator that we’re not in our right mind. When fear is felt, it’s like a “Divine Alarm Clock” going off to let us know that we are misperceiving. Fear is the indicator that we’re believing something that’s not true, it’s our wake-up call, and our reminder to choose truth.

Truth is our liberator. Fear is the indicator that we can have a healing, right now, in this moment of fear, we can choose liberation from our false beliefs, and from illusions and delusions, if we’re willing.

Fear is the pain pushing us to choose healing. We don’t have to figure out HOW to have a healing. Our job is simply to Partner UP with Spirit and call for that healing. Our job is to ALLOW.

If we don’t choose healing, another opportunity will come.

If we love ourselves we’ll choose healing now without delay.

We can learn through pain or through Joy. Love or fear. Peace or pain.

Self-Love or self-torture.

Will we let go of we judgments and beliefs in order to have a healing and be at Peace, or will we manage and cope with the fear? This is the choice we’re offered. Circumstances don’t determine how we feel, our perspective does. The truly loving choice always brings relief of fear.

Fear has no power. Love is the only power.

I choose Love. I choose liberation today.

Stay Home, Be Safe, Be Helpful

Thursday, April 2nd, 2020

One of the things I see happening is that many of us are having a common experience. All over the world, BILLIONS of people are staying at home, working from home or laid off from jobs, or home from school and we’re all making the best of it – or we’re working to get the services necessary for the people who’re staying at home.

I like to watch the late night comedy shows with hosts like Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, Samantha Bee and Jimmy Fallon. They’re all working from home and their families are pitching in as camera crews and support. It’s sweet to watch them.

While David Geffen might be in a huge yacht in the ocean, most of us are having a totally different experience.

Rock stars, movie stars, and TV stars are all staying at home and they’re looking to see how they can be helpful. Being helpful is a really good way to pass the time. We can all be helpful in one way or another.

It’s our time to rise and shine.

Today is my Sacred Circle day and I feel that we value it even more in this time of staying home. Certainly those of us in Masterful Living are appreciating our connections and gatherings more. We’re adding extra sessions for us to gather and connect in this community and everyone is showing up, sharing the Love, and the gratitude is so palpable.

Right now, parents who aren’t usually at home all day with their little ones are discovering a whole new world in lockdown. Many are finding their worlds turned upside down.

Introverts like me are doing well. But people who like lots of connection are having to find it in new ways. See if you can find out who needs connection but doesn’t know how to reach out.

Some people are having trouble sleeping.
Some are having panic attacks.
Some are bored.
Some are having a lot more work to do.

Do you know who is experiencing what in your circle? Reach out, find out.

The main thing is that if we don’t have to leave home for work, we’re staying home and staying safe.

We’re being responsible. After all, the healthcare workers have enough to deal with already.

Even if you don’t feel you’ll be subject to the virus, let’s all pitch in to a new level of responsibility and caring for our brothers and sisters. I found this video to be helpful, inspiring, and informative. And let’s help others feel good about it, too.

It’s also important to remember to laugh.  A friend who is home with little ones sent me this meme and it made me laugh. I also posted it on my personal Facebook.

I think my favorites are the lecture series. Especially, “How to stop making unnecessary noise.”  Which part is your favorite? Do you have one to add?  Please share in the comments below!

Pain is a Wrong Perspective

Wednesday, April 1st, 2020

As A Course in Miracles tells us we don’t know what anything is for. We just don’t know and won’t know until we can see beyond time and space, and until then I hold in my mind that everything works together for our good even when we can’t make sense of it.

ACIM also tells us that pain is the wrong perspective.

Let’s look at things from a spiritual perspective and rise above the level of fear.

I now know a few people who have had the Coronavirus, or think they have. I know two people who tested positive. One, a middle-aged very fit man, was hospitalized for two weeks and is home and doing well.

Another one is an older woman and she and her friends, who are also older women, and her husband have tested positive, and they’ve had mild symptoms such as feeling tired, slight fever, loss of taste for a few days. Nothing more than that. It’s been no big deal for them, and they have all definitely tested positive for COVID-19.

I have another friend who thinks she’s had the virus and has been not feeling well, a cough, feeling tired, nothing extreme but not feeling well, and self-quarantined for a few weeks now.

I tell you all of this with the hopes that it will relieve you of some fears you may have. We’re going to be developing herd immunity to this virus the way we’ve developed herd immunity to the more common flu. It’s happening.

The Center for Disease Control is telling us that many people will be infected but feeling fine – and they are most likely to spread the virus because they’re not self-quarantining. This is why it’s so important to stay home and follow the guidelines.

AND it’s extremely important to remember that we are spiritual beings.
We become invulnerable by being loving and being of service to Love and Light.

We raise our vibration up with gratitude and with extending compassion.

The script is already written, and it’s complex and multi-layered.
This experience will bring benefit to all and we MUST hold that in our hearts, ESPECIALLY when it does not seem like that could ever be possible. That’s the most important time for us to not be deceived by appearances.

Right now, it’s easy to go on an angry and fearful rant about how some people have handled this pandemic. There is a list of reasons why people could be absolutely furious for what’s happened and not happened. It’s understandable.

AND that will not help us.
Only Love will lift us up above the challenge we’re in now.

The medical workers’ display of Love and courage is an inspiration to us.

If we don’t like things, we must contact our senators and representatives and make our feelings known. We can vote and we can take loving action to help people.

Taking loving action will help us right now.
Let’s keep our vibration high through prayer.

Let us pray that all the medical workers are supported, guided, and protected by Love.

It’s the least we can do. And it is SO POWERFUL!

Thank you for praying with me today!

WE First, Not ME First

Tuesday, March 31st, 2020

Right now in our world it may seem that there’s a lot of sicknesses, a lot of illness, and that it’s increasing. I understand that this is how it looks if we look at it from the perspective of being a body. But we are NOT a body. And we never will be.

From a spiritual point of view, there’s a healing that is taking place. The healing is happening in our belief system, in our mind, and in our perspective.

If we look at what’s happening with the death and illness from Covid-19, we’ll see the only loss. When our loved ones lose their lives in this world it sure does seem like a loss, but there IS something greater occurring if we’re willing to see it – and we cannot see it if we believe we are a body.

Now is the time for us to remember that we’re not separate, we’re One with each other. A Course in Miracles calls this “accepting the Atonement.”
Miracles Principle #25 from the Text of ACIM is “Miracles are part of an interlocking chain of forgiveness which, when completed, is the Atonement. Atonement works all the time and in all the dimensions of time.”

We have a spiritual obligation to be WILLING to see past separation and accept that it never was, nor could it be.

If we’re willing, our mind will be released from believing in separation.

Right now, there’s a powerful remedy to separation thinking that’s occurring in our human experience by means of this virus. Every day we get to clearly choose between fear and compassion. Those who are choosing fear are obvious because they are not choosing compassion. Those who are choosing compassion are obvious because they are not choosing fear.

Compassion is a loving understanding. Compassion is an expression of Love that heals.

Fear binds, Love liberates.

You can tell what you’re choosing by how you feel – tense or peaceful.

Interestingly, one way for us to best survive this virus is to separate but not to see ourselves as separate. We must keep our bodies separate, but we must unite in choosing to care so much about our brothers and sisters that we’re willing to do what it takes to keep the virus from killing the most vulnerable of us.

We must unite in order to “do the right thing.”

We must be of one mind in order to accomplish this healing with the greatest ease and grace.

We can succeed best by recognizing our connection with all beings. Fires, floods, plagues. These experiences are forcing us to recognize that we are interdependent and not independent.

We cannot survive by saying “me first.” We must say “WE first.”

It takes a great willingness to set aside the consciousness of separation we’ve all worked so hard to cultivate. And we can either choose to be pushed by the pain or pulled by the vision.

Most of us choose some of each. We’re here to be truly helpful and being TRULY helpful means helping people to see clearly the difference between choosing pain and choosing Joy. So, we must work with our minds to eliminate our attraction to painful choices.

If we’re willing the Higher Holy Spirit Self will heal our minds and that will enable us to see, know, and feel clearly the truth that liberates us from the perspective that is painful.

Today’s the perfect day to double down and deepen our commitment to know the truth that sets us free from fear and suffering. Today’s our kind of day!

Fear Has No Power

Monday, March 30th, 2020

I’m self-quarantined in New Jersey for a couple of geeks now (just to be a good citizen), and so I’ve been watching New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, give his daily reports for the community. I’m very appreciative of them, especially because I have many beloved friends in New York.

Cuomo’s reports are filled with facts as well as inspiration. He also gives very practical advice, and even relationship advice. He advises that this is the time to reach out to people and let them know that you care and that you love them.

Yesterday, Cuomo shared that, in recent days, 76,000 medical professionals have volunteered to help serve New York’s citizenry in their time of need. 76,000! That’s extraordinary. That’s an outpouring! That’s our Spirit responding to the call.

Here’s my Facebook post from Saturday:

In New York, the bodies of the family’s loved ones are being stored in refrigerated trucks because there’s nothing anyone can do with the bodies at this point, while in other parts of the country people are still thinking this global pandemic is some kind of cruel hoax. New Yorker’s and others are stepping up to the challenge. People are finding their super-hero nature and accessing it to be of service to total strangers.

This is the time we were born for.

Many times, New Yorker’s are portrayed as uncaring city dwellers, but that’s not been my experience. I lived in Manhattan for 10 years, and I found New Yorker’s to be amazing and wonderful, for the most part. People who live in such close quarters have learned to have compassion, understanding, and appreciation for each other.

I’m so moved by the stories of the doctors and nurses on the front line of this pandemic. Their extraordinary compassion and caring, their tireless work and efforts, often at great risk to themselves, is nothing short of miraculous.

I have learned that the antidote to fear is always to open our hearts in Love and compassion.

Let us do just that and pray for the people who are putting their life on the line. Let us give thanks for them every day and bless their families who are must surely concerned for their safety.

And let us pray for the families of those who have left this world. Families that are taking their loved ones to the hospital never to see them again because it’s not safe for them to visit.

This is the time for us to pray and pray and pray some more. It will strengthen us and give us the vitality and resistance to being invulnerable to this challenge.

Now is the time for us to forget our differences and remember that we are one, whether we like it or not.

We ARE One and fear will never, ever conquer us.

Love is what we are and fear is NOTHING.

Transforming Terror to Peace

Tuesday, March 24th, 2020

Right now in the world, Covid-19, the Coronavirus, is raging in many places around the world. Countries are locking down. In some places, it’s illegal for people to be on the street with certain exceptions. There are all kinds of new rules and regulations coming into place. Some are to protect the populace and some are questionable invasions of citizen’s rights. Each country is different.

Some people are respecting the rules and warnings and some people are not.

We all have different ideas of what safety feels like, and we all have different trigger points of fear. As the U2 song says, “We’re one, but we’re not the same.” We’re not the same in our opinions and perceptions.

And so, we must respect these differences and have compassion for them.

As Thich Nhat Hanh, one of my teachers, has said, “Blaming never helps.”

A global pandemic is terrifying to a majority of people and we can respect how people feel while not giving in to the terror itself.

Terror, fear, comes from a perspective of wanting to control things that are not controllable.

Fear cannot arise unless attack is justified, and if it had a real foundation pardon would have none. The real world is achieved when you perceive the basis of forgiveness is quite real and fully justified.A Course in Miracles T-30.VI.3.

There will be more temptations to attack, to dispute, to make wrong than normal in this current climate of insecurity. Let’s not be tricked into believing our attack thoughts are correct. Let’s remember that “fear cannot arise unless attack is justified.” Anger and attack are so closely related, and neither is ever justifiable.

We can practice having an awareness of when we’re looking to justify our attack and our anger and lay those thoughts and beliefs on the altar. We invite the Higher Holy Spirit Self in to heal your mind about it. We will have healing as soon as we’re more willing than unwilling.

As soon as we’re more willing to let our belief go than we are willing to be righteous and right about it, the healing has happened.

Let’s go for that. More willingness.

Let’s focus on being willing to be HAPPY.

Right now, people are frightened and people are dying and people are grieving. Let’s not be petty about our grievances. I’d rather be kind to everyone now and be grateful they’re alive to annoy me.

I have a good friend who is in the hospital with this virus for 10 days now. No one can go and visit him. Lots of people are having their loved ones die in the hospital and they cannot be with them. So, if you’re finding yourself losing your patience with your loved ones, be EXTREMELY GRATEFUL they are there with you now. Raise yourself up by reaching for the Higher Holy Spirit Self. Don’t allow your vibration to fall down.

We’ll get through this and we have to do it together. LOVE is our healer. Not medicine, not food, not ventilators. LOVE.

How willing are you to practice radical patience right now? Please share in the comments below.

Fear Antidote

Monday, March 23rd, 2020

My mother passed away 12 years ago, but I notice that I’m missing her during this crisis. I say this because if you’re feeling nostalgic or missing people, or feeling triggered back to when 9/11 occurred, that’s normal.

A lot of people are going to be triggered and have PTSD experiences now and we can be mindful of that.

Let’s take extra care with each other and be extra kind. And these are the kinds of stories I’m hearing from my friends. They’re talking about how their neighbors are checking in with them and helping each other. This is one of the benefits of a time like this.

There are also stories of race-baiting and fear-mongering.

There are stories of people endangering other people in order to flaunt their fearlessness. This is a time when we are going to see people who are doing things that seem crazy. That’s what fearful thinking does to people, it makes them behave in crazy ways.

The antidote to fear is compassion.

Compassion is both Love and understanding and that combination is deeply healing. It heals our hearts and it heals others as well.

“Make way for love, which you did not create, but which you can extend. On earth this means forgive your brother, that the darkness may be lifted from your mind. When the light has come to him through your forgiveness, he will not forget his savior, leaving him unsaved.” T-29.III.4.

We are the ones who are saved when we forgive. When we relinquish our judgments, we are the ones who are redeemed and restored. In this way, our brothers and sisters are our saviors always.

Choosing to be grateful for our saviors rather than despise them is what we can learn to do.

“Forgive them, Father, they know not what they do.”

Extending compassion redeems us, it cleans out our heart, it refreshes our mind. When we have no judgments there’s nothing to forgive.
Let’s not bother with resentment anymore. Let’s not huff and puff and blow our house down. Let’s cultivate true humility and extend Love and compassion to those who haven’t appreciated us in the past.

Just think, if you had behaved poorly, unkindly, meanly, fearfully, would you wish for people to forgive you and extend compassion? Of course you would! To have, give all to all. Let’s see them with new eyes and be that truly helpful presence in this world.

Who can you extend compassion to today? Let’s get on it and make a difference!

Ridding the world of fear is a great goal!

Clear the Fear

Thursday, October 3rd, 2019

A Course in Miracles teaches us that “There are no private thoughts.” This is the same as many other mystical teachings. This is exactly what I learned as a student of Ernest Holmes teachings in The Science of Mind.

There is but One Mind, and all of our minds are joined in that One Mind. We can’t possibly have a private thought when all of our minds are joined in the One Mind and yet, we still often find ourselves operating as though we can keep our thoughts hidden or secret. We can’t.

The incredibly good news is that we can CHANGE our mind and hold only loving and compassionate thoughts. When our mind is attuned to the loving thoughts and focused on that, then we will see the results in our life. I call it “working in the invisible.” It’s so much easier to work in the mind than to work in the world.

I call laboring in the world “pushing density” because it feels exhausting, whereas working in the mind, when we’re focused on Love, is exhilarating! It’s energizing!

You can always tell who is operating from Love and who isn’t. It’s obvious. Words aren’t necessary. We don’t need private thoughts. They are useless.

The more I choose the loving thought, the more I don’t care if everyone knows everything I’m thinking. And I’m not afraid of what other people think, because my thoughts are of Love. Isn’t that wonderful? It’s very simple too.

When our thoughts are unloving, that’s when we fear that other people will know what we’re thinking. The end of fear comes when we focus on being loving. When we’re fully committed to being loving, then there simply is nothing to fear.

It’s amazing to realize that allowing the good to flow in our lives is incredibly simple, and we complicate it and obscure it by choosing to believe the meaning we’ve made of things when we don’t have to. Thank God we can always choose again.

ACIM calls our heart the altar. Let’s clear off all the false idols that we’ve laid upon the altar of our heart and open to true Love now.

What are false idols?
Anything that we’ve made more important than our connection with Spirit.

It could be any one of your relationships or even your body.
It could be your job or your house.

If you’re feeling fearful at all and you really wish to be free of worry, fear, and anxiety, the answer is simple. It’s not easy, but it’s simple. Give the attack thoughts to the Higher Holy Spirit Self and open your heart to appreciating the good in your life. Count your blessings and it will shift your thinking.

We’re loving ourselves free of all fear and limitation!

When we don’t feel connected to Spirit and supported by Spirit, or even when we fear God, it’s most likely a result of feeling unworthy. If you suspect that worthiness is your issue, then you might consider receiving my gift. My Worthiness Workshop this past weekend was such a hit that I’m offering it again this week. Enjoying Life

Saturday, July 13th, 2019

I love being in Vermont in the summertime. It’s so beautiful, lush and green here, and it’s rarely too hot or too humid. It’s absolutely lovely. I feel so grateful to be out in the woods, riding around on the dirt roads (even though my car gets SO dirty), and seeing the stars at night. It’s heaven here in the Green Mountains.

I love the sounds of the birds. They really nourish me. I love being able to have the windows open all day, and to be bathed in the sunlight all day, too, not needing to turn on the lights until the sun sets. What a blessing.

When I was a teen and in my early 20’s I liked to sleep in and sleep till 10 a.m. I can’t remember the last time I did that. Now I’m aware that my body clock likes to get to bed early and get up early, and I do my best to respect it.

I love the longer summer days, more sunlight. Sunrise is early here. It’s light around 5 a.m. and in Maine, where our family’s home is, the sun is lighting things up before 5. I find it so energizing!

Summer didn’t used to be my favorite time, because I didn’t like the heat. But now that I have been coming to Vermont for longer stays for the last many years now, I find there’s so much to enjoy.

I do love the change of seasons. I missed the big shifts and changes of the seasons when I lived in Los Angeles. I enjoy the snow and cold of the winter and the contrast.

Life is filled with the contrasts that help us to see things differently.

When we deepen our spiritual practice life is easier and more beautiful.

When we think we don’t have time for it and make other things a priority, like running errands, then we actually have less time to enjoy the good things in life.

We experience contrasts between when our practice is strong and when it’s weak, and we learn. Contrast is a great teacher.

And I prefer to learn through direct insight and less through contrast. I’m interested in ease and grace all the way. No matter what’s going on in the world, I can be at Peace.

Let truth be revealed, may Love prevail! Let’s enjoy this beautiful day for the gifts it offers us.

Fear Be Gone

Friday, July 12th, 2019

I can remember when I would have shock waves of fear that seemed to shoot through me like lightning waves. I’d have a thought that would produce a rush of adrenaline and an energetic shock that moved through me in a way that my heart would start racing instantly.

Once I had a mild panic attack that was a whole different kind of fear but felt almost foundational – like my very core was threatened.

If only someone could have told me then what I now know! And A Course in Miracles says it so well in so many ways:

All fear is ultimately reducible to the basic misperception that you have the ability to usurp the power of God.” ACIM T-2.I.4.

I understand that it seems hard to believe that all fear comes from judging and from thinking thoughts that are untrue. It can seem as though fear comes from what’s happening in the world that frightens us. Yet, the truth is it is our opinions that are frightening us, precisely because when we affirm our judgments and opinions, we are affirming that we are the ones who decide who is good and who is bad, who is right and who is wrong and, in doing so, we become the usurpers.

We can train our mind to see beyond appearances and recognize only the truth, or we can live with fear.

I move that we love ourselves enough to stop frightening ourselves.

Consider if there’s someone in your life that you really love and adore – would you yell at them? Frighten them? Torture them?

You wouldn’t do those things if you truly loved them.

What judgment do you have that’s worth holding onto when you know that it will cause your own suffering? Think of all the things you’ve done to try to end your suffering that haven’t really worked.

Would you try the one thing that actually works?

Or do you feel that you can have your judgments, and the fear you experience is unrelated?

I don’t think I could have believed giving up my opinions would relieve me of fear. I only know that it works because I have been giving up my judgments as part of my daily spiritual practice for over a decade and, as a result, I don’t have much fear.

I am loving myself free of lack, attack, and limitation. It’s happening now.
