Spiritual Discipline Brings Joy!

Monday, September 21st, 2020

I find that by following Spirit’s guidance I cannot fail. Spirit doesn’t fail and neither can I. That’s such a good feeling. It took me developing a great willingness and doing a LOT of forgiveness work to get to the peaceful place I live in now. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it.

In the Stop Playing Small retreat this weekend, we’ve been talking about how easy it is to decide to do the laundry instead of our spiritual practice. “Let me clean up the kitchen first, or run these errands.” In this, we’re all the same.

I have a friend who basically won’t take any phone calls or do anything on the computer until her basic spiritual practice is done. Even though she’s a dedicated practitioner she knows that if she delays her practice to the afternoon momentum is lost and she will be less dedicated, less devoted, less in synch.

I absolutely LOVE to get up at 5am and begin with spiritual practice.

I love to build the momentum of doing that 40 days in a row without fail. Even if I worked till midnight. I keep my agreement with myself.

Folks who are in class with me learn that a commitment to a simple spiritual practice for a length of time like 21, 30, 40, 90 days or a year builds focus, mental strength, self-Love and self-esteem. We often look outside ourselves for these things, but they can only come from within.

Let’s not fool ourselves anymore.

Let’s be ALL IN for our connection with Spirit.

Doing it together is a wonderful way to build momentum. Many who are in my year-long Masterful Living Course have joined me in doing a simple meditation practice. People have had such wonderful benefits that I decided to do a 40 Day Challenge and open it to everyone.

In yesterday’s blog on the Kirtan Kriya, I explained about my 40 Day Kirtan Kriya Challenge. I’m excited for us to build some group momentum and I do hope you’ll check it out and join us.

There’s no cost to join the challenge – this is just a gift from the Power of Love Ministry to you.

Click here to learn more about the Kirtan Kriya 40 Day Challenge!

It’s my joy to share this spiritual practice that supports us in so many ways.

Spiritual Phenomenon

Friday, September 18th, 2020

Real change is lasting change. Real change is actually letting go of that which obscures our true identity expressing in this world. Real change is eliminating the false beliefs, habits, mental and emotional patterns that keep us repeating the past.

I’ve always been interested in movies, stories and television shows about exploring. I particularly find it interesting to look at things related to shifting dimensions of time and space. I find that when I’m watching these kinds of stories the Higher Holy Spirit Self inspires me in many ways. All kinds of insights about how to heal my mind come flashing through. It’s cool!

A couple of years ago I was in Germany with several beautiful folks who are in classes with me, we had a talk about spiritual phenomenon. I shared that I’m not interested in phenomenon, which might seem like a complete contradiction about what I said about enjoying entertaining stories about shifting dimensions of time and space.

Allow me to explain further.

I am interested in two things:
Attaining enlightenment, waking up and living as an awakened being, walking in this world as a Bodhisattva, dedicated to living and demonstrating endless compassion
Supporting other people who are interested in waking up.

That’s what’s important to me.

Phenomenon isn’t a part of that journey, although certainly, I experience interesting phenomenon from time to time.

I’ve experienced time speeding up and slowing down. I’ve experienced things disappearing and reappearing. I’ve experienced being invisible. All kinds of things, but it’s only valuable to me if it helps me to awaken and let go of a false identification with a false self.

Real change is when we forgive ourselves for the decisions we made based upon our opinions and judgements from the past. That’s the ONLY thing I know that brings REAL and lasting change.

Self-forgiveness is the one thing that brings permanent healing and change.

And, I see that the most dedicated spiritual students will spend many years studying all kinds of spiritual teachings, trying to memorize the names of archangels, ascended masters, and gathering information, while avoiding actually doing the forgiveness work. And that’s why I stay focused on supporting people actually staying focused on the work that is meaningful and life-changing. It’s so challenging to stay focused, at least it used to be for me. It really was the hardest thing I ever did!

I learned how to stay focused because I made the decision to have a healing. I became determined to not give up and stay focused and still it was challenging for me. This is why creating opportunities for consistent, authentic, non-judgmental support is the focus of my life.

When we forgive ourselves now for the mis-takes of the past, then we unlock the wisdom that was hidden in the events of the past. We cannot unlock the wisdom, the value, the energetic rocket boosters encoded into our past without the self-forgiveness.

Blaming others prevents us from learning.
Defending ourselves is not the best use of our energy and time.
There is nothing to defend.
All attack, is an illusion.
When our heart is open, there can be no attack.

It takes willingness to see that and feel it.

When we forgive ourselves now for the mis-takes of the past, then we unlock the wisdom that was hidden in the events of the past, and with that wisdom now unfolding in our heart, we make different choices now, and that not only changes the present moment, it changes the future.

In this way we are time travelers.
When we forgive, we energetically travel back in time and change the past.
The past shifts.
The past goes from being a burden we carry to being a gift we can share with others, and the light is revealed.

Now is the time, now is the time, now is the time!
Now is the time for us to change our mind and stop dragging the burdens of the past around.

We’re not meant to play small, and that’s why it’s so painful for us.

If you’d really like to do this healing work of letting go of complaining and other mental patterns that stand in our way of happiness and Peace, consider joining me. Not Stuck

Sunday, September 13th, 2020

For a very long time I felt stuck in my spiritual growth. I couldn’t seem to advance and I was repeating the same painful patterns EVEN THOUGH I knew better. UGH!!!

It was infuriating.
I knew I was in my own way.
I was in a quagmire of false beliefs that kept me cycling around in mental and emotional patterns that were very distracting, limiting and painful.

I SO wanted to break free.
I believed spiritual practice would help me.
Just couldn’t seem to find the right thing to unlock the mystery of WHY IS IT SO HARD?

Then, things got a whole lot MORE challenging. I didn’t know it at the time, but it was a gift.
That’s right, it was a gift to be so intensely challenged.

There came a point in my spiritual unfoldment where it seemed like I was being challenged to my core. The challenges were coming in all directions.

My mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

My spiritual community profoundly let me down.
My best friend cheated me.
My sweetheart … oh, don’t even get me started on that one.

Anyway, there was more, but that’s enough – it was a ego lollapalooza of betrayals, upsets and freak outs.
It felt like the challenges were on all levels and in all areas of my life – except that I had my health. Thank GOD for that!

I had the sense that I was being “tested.” I was being tested not in the way that an unkind teacher would prepare a grueling test in order to put you through the wringer, but rather I was being tested in the sense of being offered an opportunity to rise above all past precedent and break through to a new level of awareness, understanding, strength and willingness.

And that’s the kind of test we get from Spirit – the kind that forces us to choose which way we’ll go.

Will we let go of the beliefs that are torturing us, or will seek the answer in the world rather than within?
Will we relinquish the meaning we made of things, take responsibility and move on, or will we we blame the world?
That time of challenge was far from easy for me.

It did help that I could feel that it was a test of my mettle. It was the opportunity for me to focus on developing the clarity that I so deeply desired. It was the required course for me to purify my heart and relinquish the habits of playing small.

I was so tired of playing small, and yet I couldn’t seem to break the spell I was under.
That time of intense challenge on almost every front was both difficult and exhausting. It was also exactly what I needed to step more into my true identity as a spiritual being capable of great love and compassion. i reached a tipping point and I’ve noticed that I’ve not had any backsliding.

Instead, much to my surprise, my growth continues to unfold and expand, which is wonderful.

Honestly, I don’t see one spiritual student who truly wishes to awaken from the painful dream of separation who doesn’t go through some very intense time of healing. It’s when the storm is raging so furiously, and we’re really up against it, that we can break through the most intense attachments to the mental patterns of the past. It’s actually a tremendous gift from the Higher Self.

If we’re willing to receive it.

If we’re willing to give up the attachments to the past, we can have a whole new future.

We all know that willingness is the key to transformation.

Spiritual practice is EVERYTHING in our awakening.

Willingness to be loving and to choose that loving connection over everything else IS a spiritual practice.

We can leverage our willingness to choose love and cultivate an awareness that we CAN actually leave the past behind and release the future also. This gives us the experience of being present to the now which is the only place our transformation can happen.

The challenges become the motivation for real change.

If you feel you’re being tested, be grateful. The tipping point is at hand. Let’s go for it and let our reluctance and resistance be the reminder that we ARE doing it and we’re not stuck anymore.

The only way to change your ENTIRE LIFE is to make one choice at a time, and keep making another, and another. And we have that ability. There is profound support for us in the invisible – and we can tap into it. Life can be easier, relationships can heal, our minds can liberate.

And that’s what we’re able to share with all life.
We can share our healing and that is a gift that we give to all.
Our healing is our legacy – and it’s never too late – we’re never too far gone.

We are blessed, now and forever!

We Have What It Takes

Saturday, September 12th, 2020

Many have a tendency to second guest themselves and to doubt themselves.  When we doubt that we can succeed our trust and faith is not in Spirit, but in ourselves.

I used to doubt myself so much.  And now I know that self-doubt is insanity. It’s plain crazy!  Self-doubt is when the ego mind says:

“You don’t have what it takes”

Spirit ALWAYS has what it takes to do whatever it would like to do.

ALWAYS.

When we’re aligned with ego we’ll be filled with doubt, BECAUSE the ego can only accomplish that which is not worth accomplishing. THEREFORE it’s naturally filled with doubt.

What the ego can accomplish is only of this world, and has no lasting value.

What the ego can accomplish is only that which can lead to your suffering.

The value of suffering is that it PUSHES us to wake up and choose Spirit.

That’s about all the ego really has for us at this point. Motivation to stop suffering.

What does that motivation really come from? Increased suffering!

Is that any way to live?

Unfortunately, yes, it is, and I have lived that way and it absolutely got me to the point where I said

“I have had ENOUGH. I AM choosing LOVE!”

Phew!

Who knew that in this world one of the best things that could ever happen is that my suffering would become intolerable and I would totally give up and surrender my life to the Higher Holy Spirit Self and then be grateful for everything I’ve experienced?  What a wild ride!

I’m so glad to learn that Spirit never fails!

I’ve learned to count on Spirit and to place my trust and faith in Spirit, and that’s the challenge.  The challenge is learning to trust.  Trust is a result of willingness.

I learned to focus on cultivating a TRUE and honest willingness to be loving, kind, generous and patient – as well as a willingness to take responsibility for my own feelings.  In doing that, the doubt dissipated.

I’m getting ready for my Stop Playing Small Online Retreat on September 18.

If you’d really like to do this healing work of letting go of complaints and the other things that stand in our way of happiness and Peace, consider joining me. Healing The Unconscious Guilt

Friday, September 11th, 2020

Lately, I’ve been noticing so many more places where the unconscious guilt that A Course in Miracles talks about is driving people’s choices and they have no idea of it. There are so many patterns of pain and negativity playing out throughout our days that we’re not even aware of.

Yesterday I wrote about feeling insecure.

Insecurity comes directly from the unconscious guilt patterns.

It takes up so much of our bandwidth and yet we don’t even realize that’s the real issue.

In our essence, we’re all perfect Spirit poured into different expressions of human experience.

Somewhere along the journey, we gave ourselves permission to judge, to sort, separate and label. The more we see each other as separate, different, wrong, bad, better or worse, the more our perspective is skewed and we cannot see correctly.

We’ve cultivated a distorted perspective of being better than, worse then and separate from, and because we’ve done it on purpose, intentionally cultivating this false view of ourselves and others, we feel badly. Deep down, every one of us feels guilty for giving ourselves permission to attack others, and ourselves, with thoughts of better and worse, when deep down, we do know that we’re one with each other and not separate.

It’s an ancient guilt that we’re in the process of healing.

This ancient guilt is why we all feel less than perfectly lovable and believe it’s true even though it’s not.

We’re one with each other.

Can I possibly believe that you are less than lovable and not believe it of myself?

If deep down, I know that you and I are one, how can I actually believe that it’s possible to paint you as bad and wrong and not paint myself that way too?

Well, here’s how – we made a divide in our mind. We made a split.
We can call it right mind and wrong mind.
Clear mind and distorted mind.

With the split in our mind, we can now see ourselves as separate from each other, but it has a HUGE cost to pay in order to make the illusion of the split possible. We had to also agree that we were separate from Spirit. It was the only way.

What we didn’t realize was that the split in our mind would also prevent us from feeling our God-nature. All of our gifts that are essential to our living a joyful life would be hidden from us on the other side of the split.

In our awareness of oneness and union in Spirit we’re able to access our true divine nature and experience the many gifts of God. These gifts are our natural state of being. They are sometimes seen as colored rays of light, like the aspects of light we see in a rainbow. They are the spiritual qualities of being that we truly are such as:

  • Love
  • Joy
  • Freedom
  • Wisdom
  • Clarity
  • Peace
  • Harmony
  • Beauty
  • Wholeness
  • Prosperity
  • Purity
  • Abundance
  • And more

When we seek the kingdom first, when we put Spirit first, then all of these spiritual qualities are now awake and available in our mind. This is our true Abundance, remembering our lineage, our ancestry, our inheritance!

Our way back to our true reality is being willing to recognize what is false and stop identifying with a smaller, weaker, selfish self. We are truly miraculous beings of Love and Light and our destiny is to remember the kingdom is within. Let’s look for our blessings where we can find them, already pre-installed, within.

Instead of looking for separation and differences, let’s look for similarities and unity.

I’m getting ready for my Stop Playing Small Online Retreat on September 18.

Trading Fear for Joy

Monday, August 10th, 2020

We frighten ourselves. We do. And we do it on purpose.

Some of us have trained ourselves to not rise above worry, anxiety, fear, sadness, or some other emotional state.

There can be many reasons for why we’re living this way.

To me, it doesn’t really matter why we’re being dysfunctional and living in fear or some other lower emotional state. I used to be fascinated with people’s psychological states and how they got there. I was so interested in people’s stories and tales of woe and how they had come to their conclusions that they weren’t good enough, or some other self-perception that was completely false.

Now, I can see that I was living from my intellect, always curious about other people’s patterns of “disinformation” about themselves so that I could be distracted from my own patterns. It’s not the case anymore.

Since Love is the healer, and only Love can heal whatever my issues are, analyzing how I got here isn’t helpful.

Only Love is helpful. I focus on how I can be loving to myself and others. It brings tremendous fruit! And fulfillment!

Are you analytical like me?
Do you feel safer living in your head than in your heart?

There’s a lot of us, and we can all be transformed by the Higher Holy Spirit Self. All we have to do is realize that our true heart’s desire is to live from the heart, ask the HHSS for support in living from the heart, and then follow the guidance until it feels easier and easier.

Before too long we will have changed our way of being in reaction and living in our intellect.

It brings such Joy and it puts an end to fear.

It’s so worth it. And our willingness is all that’s required.

Let’s be as willing as we can be to change our mind, be kind and remember to laugh. Our spiritual practice transforms the world!

How I Overcame My Weakness

Sunday, August 9th, 2020

Today I’m joining Jon Mundy in his monthly program on A Course in Miracles. We’ll be sharing about the principles of ACIM – a favorite topic for both of us. The other morning, we had a talk about what we’d like to share today. It’s always great to talk with an ACIM friend and share what we love about The Course.

We were discussing the Characteristics of God’s Teachers as laid out in Chapter IV in the Manual for Teachers. I so often go back to those characteristics and what Jesus has to say about them. There are such simplicity and clarity in those ten characteristics. They truly are a guide for living. In some ways, we could say that they’re a summation of the entire workbook.

Over my many years of sharing ACIM with my beloved friends, I’ve come to see that many people read those Characteristics and feel like they understand them, more or less, and that’s all that’s needed. I don’t find many people who take them as a guide for better living or as a “prescription” for ego attachments.

AND YET, that’s precisely what these few pages are – a guide for better living and a prescription for how to heal what ails us.

In my classes – Finding Freedom, and Masterful Living, I suggest that folks read the first Characteristic section on “Development of Trust” once a day for a week and once a week after that. I find that section both unsettling and comforting at the same time.

We’re told that we’re going to have to give up all ego attachments, and if we don’t do it willingly, then Spirit will, essentially, take whatever we’re attached to from us (or show us how painful the attachment is in some other way).

We don’t have to give up the things we’re attached to, but we absolutely must give up the attachment or suffer. It’s kind of like this – if I know that I’m holding onto something sharp, that I have a strong attachment to, and it’s cutting me, which is painful and bloody, and leads to infection, possibly amputation and systemic breakdown, I can let go of MY ATTACHMENT to that sharp object and realize that it’s MY ATTACHMENT that’s causing the cutting, bleeding infection that is my suffering.

I may not need to give up the item, I may be able to find out how to hold onto it with no suffering, but I cannot find that way of holding it until I give up my attachment.

I can give up the attachment OR, I can keep suffering, but Spirit will likely find a way to rip that thing out of my hand anyway.

So, I’d rather give up the attachment of my own free will. I may get to keep the thing I have an attachment to if I can hold it without attachment.

Here’s an example: I used to have an attachment to kettle corn. Perhaps that sounds both familiar and strange at the same time, but I did have an attachment to it.

When I went to services at Agape every Sunday, singing in the choir for 11 years, and on Wednesday nights too, I’d walk through the parking lot to get into the building and there was a fellow selling fresh made kettle corn. You could smell it as you were walking towards the building.

I had an attachment to that kettle corn. I just loved it. It’s especially good freshly made, still a bit warm. Yum. I would get some once or twice a week. I felt it was a weakness. It felt addictive compulsive.

For years, I was in this attachment to the kettle corn. I called it kettle crack corn because it was like crack cocaine in a way.

I decided to hand over to the Higher Holy Spirit Self this “addiction” to the kettle crack corn. I put Spirit in charge.

I asked that the attachment be removed.

I was choosing Freedom.

Next thing I knew, it was a few months later and I realized I’d forgotten all about the kettle corn. I had been going to Agape for months without even thinking about the corn. I was free.

I surrendered my attachment to Spirit and Spirit took it from me.

I’ve been able to enjoy kettle corn since then, but it’s not craving and I don’t think about it even once per year. I can’t remember the last time I got some kettle corn. I’m just not interested in it anymore.

It was never about the kettle corn. Through self-forgiveness, I released the attachment to being addictive compulsive with anything. All that faded right out of my life, and now I help others to do the same thing.

I’ve learned that I have to live and apply these teachings, truly embodying them in order to have the healing. Reading and studying isn’t healing because healing doesn’t happen in the intellect, it happens in the mind that’s in our heart.

And our willingness is ALL that’s required.
I was willing.
I put Spirit in charge.
Spirit cannot fail.
And so I was successful.
I was successful the minute I decided to put Spirit in charge.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

TODAY, you can join me and my friends, Lisa Natoli, Omiyomi Ibuemi, and more friends on zoom. Lisa Natoli is a dear friend and a great ACIM teacher and Omiyomi for about 20 years. We’re coming together to share our inspiration in many ways. We’ll have a spiritual celebration together with message and music – we call it Sundays With Spirit. Please invite your family! If you can’t join us, you can catch the replay! Because we’re going to be live on video, you’ll have to register to get the detail. I look forward to our gathering TODAY. It means so much that we can join together and celebrate Spirit together.
