Grace is Always Available

Thursday, October 22nd, 2020

I’ve learned a really beautiful lesson.  It was difficult for me to learn because my personality thought I was right and that I knew better than LIFE did what was best for me.

My lesson was that LIFE is always providing me the best possible ways for me to grow and learn.

LIFE is leading, guiding and directing me toward easier, simpler, higher, better, faster, more direct ways to learn and grow with less difficulties – and I used to fight that.  I was a great resister.

What a TREMENDOUS blessing it’s been to learn to go with the flow.  When things are going a way I don’t like, instead of resisting, I can relax.  I relax first, partner UP with Spirit and ask for the guidance I need to see the highest and best path of Love.

My willingness is the key that opens the door to ease, grace and real growth.

My resistance would show up as complaints, taking offense, feeling hurt, trying to control or manipulate.  That just made the lesson harder to learn and the pain harder to burn.  It was exhausting.

When we’re fighting the flow, it’s exhausting.  When we’re resisting the growth, not trusting Spirit, and trying to figure it out on our own we find it tiresome and troublesome to proceed.

Grace is always available.

“Spirit is in a state of grace forever.

Your reality is only spirit.

Therefore you are in a state of grace forever.”

A Course in Miracles

Grace is always there, just beyond our opinion that things should be different.

Creative Cooking

Wednesday, October 21st, 2020

I’ve been coming to Vermont almost every summer since 2006 because I wished to study in person with my spiritual teacher, Venerable Dhyani Ywahoo. Venerable started the Sunray Meditation Society and established the Peace Village where I’ve been camping each summer. This year, I was guided to move here and rent a home.

During this time of Covid, I’ve been experimenting with oatmeal cookies because they’re Venerable’s favorite.

I have been working on a recipe I’m pretty happy with that is delicious!

My goal was to find a recipe that was gluten free, vegan and non-fat – and I think I’ve come up with one!

Pumpkin Ginger Oatmeal Cookies

1 can pumpkin
1 1/3 cup Monk Fruit
1 T cinnamon
1 t vanilla
Dash of salt
1/2 cup minced fresh ginger
2 T flax meal

Mix all that together then add:
3 1/3 cups oats

I let it set for a while as the pumpkin is quite wet and the oats will absorb the juices and I feel it makes better cookies.

You can add raisins and nuts as you like, use less ginger, omit the flax, use sugar instead of monk fruit if you prefer. These are flexible.

You can also make them with 4 super ripe bananas instead of the pumpkin. I just prefer the pumpkin.

Form the dough into normal cookie size patties and bake on a baking sheet – I use parchment or silicone baking sheet – no fat needed at all.

10 minutes at 350

Once baked, I store them in the fridge because they’re a bit damp – it just depends on how soon you’ll eat them. I keep them in the fridge and then toast them in the toaster oven and have a few for breakfast – they’re chewy and very satisfying.

Two make a great snack with coffee.

I haven’t tried with nutmeg, allspice etc. I’m sure pumpkin pie spice would be a nice change from just the cinnamon and vanilla. If you like turmeric, you might try that as well. Fresh or powdered.

Please let me know if you try them!

I order Monk Fruit from Amazon – it measures exactly like sugar – tests better (to me) than sugar. Click here to order the brand I’ve been using: Organic Monk Fruit – granulated.

Monk fruit has a surprising number of benefits which you can read about here by clicking here: Monk Fruit Benefits.

Undoing Ego Thinking

Tuesday, October 20th, 2020

In my podcast today, I’ll be sharing about Undoing the Ego Thinking.  This is the primary focus in my classes – so that we can feel more Peace, Love and Joy. The ego thought system is one that ensnares us, like a fly caught in a Venus trap.  We felt the attraction, we got caught, stuck and trapped.  We didn’t have the strength to get out.

All of that can change.

Our willingness to get off the pain train and stay off is all that’s Required.

I’ve done a battle with pleasure and pain in a way that is familiar to any folks.  I’ve gone after pleasures of eating, exercising, drinking and even smoking to excess so that I am absolutely clear that I’m not helping myself, not enjoying myself and in some twisted way punishing myself.  It was demoralizing and I’m very glad I don’t feel compulsive about that kind of behavior any longer.

This experience of confusion between pleasure and pain could be something like a lovely dessert that becomes two or three portions and then a feeling of way too much sugar.  I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but I used to do that with chips, popcorn and crackers.  I’d feel that I’d eaten too much and definitely too much salt.

I notice now that I rarely overeat, and I rarely eat things that I regret and that’s HUGE for me.  I know now that it happened because of my willingness to do the self-forgiveness inner work.  This is why I feel compelled to keep offering opportunities to do this work in a group – so we don’t get overwhelmed by our resistance and reluctance.

Every year, folks in class with me tell me stories of how they did the class work and they naturally experienced losing a bunch of weight and keeping it off, having arthritis pain lesson dramatically and then needing fewer and fewer pain killers, as well as, of course, chronic pain disappearing entirely.

I think for some people the constant feeling of physical discomfort is what keeps them in the cycle of negative pleasure.  I can remember feeling that some form of self-medication was “all I had” that brought me pleasure.  It was “all I had” to take my mind off my unhappiness.

I used so many things that were enjoyable in small doses but became painful in larger doses.  They were all meant to distract me from my feelings, but they only led me into a deeper hole of feeling that I was a fake and a failure.

It’s so liberating to be able to enjoy the pleasures of life without feeling addicted or compulsive towards them.  I feel that my whole life is better because I’m not having to control my impulses, I’m naturally choosing the things that are self-loving.  It’s a whole different way of living.  It’s a MAJOR release of worry and guilt and shame.  YAY!

It’s because spiritual practice has eliminated the ROOT CAUSE of my negative pleasure habits.  DOUBLE YAY!

This healing has definitely brought me a constant feeling of higher vibration in my beingness.

Living at a higher vibration, I notice that I naturally am less interested in lower vibrational choices, so I don’t have to struggle with behavior modification and trying to release those negative pleasure habits – they fell away gracefully.  HALLELUJAH.  I didn’t even IMAGINE that was possible for me.

The healing power and presence of God’s Love is REAL.

I know that now.  I also now know that it’s available for everyone.

I really didn’t think I’d be able to get to the place I am now.  The main turning point for me was when I made my spiritual life and practice the most important part of my life.  It was during that time that I shifted into the healing practices that became my Finding Freedom From Fear spiritual bootcamp and my life began change for the better – and it’s continued to this day.

My whole orientation changed and I began to achieve lasting success and the healing took hold in my heart and mind.

I no longer have any days where I feel like I’m sliding back.  That feeling is gone and I am forever grateful!

New Decisions

Monday, October 19th, 2020

Why does prayer work? This is the important thing for us to understand. Our Spirit already knows why prayer works. Our Spirit already knows. Our Spirit has no question about it, has no confusion about it.

Our Spirit absolutely knows, unequivocally, that “Prayer is the medium of miracles.” as it says in the Text of A Course in Miracles“Prayer is the medium of miracles.” It is, if you will, the ground. Like soil is the medium that you plant a seed in. “Prayer is the medium of miracles.” It is the soil that the miracle grows in.  This is critical to what we study all year in our Masterful Living class.

Spirit already knows the answer to every question that we have. Our Spirit, which is part of the Spirit– part of God— Spirit, our Spirit, THE Spirit, is not bound by time and space.  Spirit doesn’t have blocks to awareness of everything in time and space, to every causation of every single thing in this world, from a slight cough to the most complex disease, to poverty.  Every single cause and cure is known in the Mind of God. There’s no confusion whatsoever.

But we, in our holding onto the decisions that we’ve made about the past, are holding onto the blocks to Love which prevent us from seeing, knowing, feeling, and hearing clearly what the truth is. The antidote to those blocks, the removal of those blocks, is completely, 100%, dependent upon our willingness to experience the Clarity rather than the confusion.

In order to experience the Clarity rather than the confusion, we must make a new decision. A new decision.

The way our experience works in this human realm is, we make decisions about life, and what we think life means – we give it all the meaning that it has for us.

We make decisions like “I’m not good enough.” We make decisions like “Dogs are not safe.” Or, “People are not safe.” Or, “Women are not safe.” Or, “Men are not safe.” Or, “White people are not safe.”

We make all kinds of decisions based on our experience, and then those become the blocks to Love, because they’re not true.

They are a projection. They are perception. They are beliefs that are the effects of the decisions we made.

For example, let’s say that someone in our childhood is very unloving to us, and so we form the belief we’re unlovable. I’ve worked with many people, as a Spiritual Counselor, who were cruelly treated as children.  Many times, those people come to believe their care givers, are treating them this way because there’s something horribly wrong with them. They think, it must be them. They deserve it.

This is often what happens with children. My mother used to work in childhood services, and she would see things like a child who has been burned with a cigarette, and violently attacked in the home. The children are taken away to child services, and many times all that child wants is to get back to that very same caregiver, that parent, or whoever it is, who was hurting them.

We interpret things incorrectly and then make decisions based on our interpretations.

And this places blocks in the mind.  Like veils in the mind, that become a distortion of reality.  In order to heal this, we can use prayer. Because there’s not one person on this planet– I’m absolutely convinced of this, there’s not one person on this planet that makes a prayer, or offers a prayer request, that does not have a small amount of willingness to have healing.

Why would we write out a prayer request and put it in a prayer box if you had no willingness to receive the healing and the transformation? Why would we ask for prayer, why would we make a prayer, unless we had the tiniest little bit of willingness to receive the answered prayer? Prayer is POWERFUL!  Let’s pray all throughout our day.

Let’s pray to let go of all the decisions we’ve made that are predicated upon a false conclusion.

We can even pray for greater willingness!

Prodigal Daughter?

Sunday, October 18th, 2020

I used to feel like there was some kind of invisible lid on my life. Maybe you could call it a spiritual glass ceiling.

I felt that no matter what class I took or book I read, I was still not having the breakthrough and momentum that I so deeply desired. I began to feel quite discouraged. I thought it was me. I began to think that it was just more evidence that something was wrong with me. (Though, truth be told, I’d didn’t see a whole lot of people around me having amazing breakthroughs and healing.)

Sometimes I’d think that there was some mysterious, magical code that I must be missing. I mean, it had to be something like that because I was putting so much time, money and effort into my spiritual studies. I just wanted to find out what the code was, and who had the key.

Well, it turns out that I had the code, AND I had the key.

In a sense, it was like that moment when Dorothy, in The Wizard of Oz, realizes that she had the power all along. The difference is, it didn’t happen for me all at once. It dawned on me slowly.

One thing I learned is that the truth is written in our heart. It’s already there, pre-installed, but we do have to decide to access it in order to experience it.

The way we access it is through our willingness, our desire, and expressions of Love.

I found the path that I was looking for in my own heart.
The path I was looking for was to loving myself.

I had to be willing to Love myself enough to release all the blocks to Love.

Dorothy’s journey is archetypal.
She’s a kind of prodigal daughter.

Think about it:
She gets mad.
She runs away from home.
She gets lost in a foreign land.
She has a lot of adventures, but she really just wants to return home to the love of her family.
When she returns, she’s waking from a dream.

The dream of not having, lacking, wanting and searching ultimately leads us all back to our hearts. There’s no where else to go.

So, of course I had to stop looking outside myself and come back into my heart. That’s the great journey. AND no matter where we are in the journey – we can drop what we’re distracted by and come back into our hearts RIGHT NOW. We don’t have to wait! FOR REAL.

That’s the thing about the ego – it’s always conditional. To the ego, everything is conditional. Everything has to be earned. The Spirit doesn’t work that way because Spirit is a NOW system. LOVE is a NOW thing. Love ONLY exists in the now. Ego is always in the past or the future.

Our journey home to our heart is NOW. That’s the only time we can experience it is now.

That glass ceiling I was feeling, that resistance and reluctance – that stuckness – was simply the belief that I was lacking and that I didn’t have what it took.

We all have what it takes!

We’re all pure Spirit – how could we be lacking?

Today’s the day to truly practice the Presence, with gratitude and Self-Love.

Today is our day to wake from the dream of endless limitations. We already have the power!

All we must do is look where we can find – and that’s within.

We must return home to our heart to feel whole.

No matter how ugly you think it might be inside your heart, no matter how empty or depraved – that’s where the kingdom is. The kingdom is just underneath whatever rotten thing you think might be there. Look past the delusion of less than and not enough and you will see the kingdom.

A Course in Miracles tells us we are God’s treasure. Let’s live as if we knew it!

Gain Without Pain

Saturday, October 17th, 2020

Pain can push us to stop settling for unhappiness.

It might seem counter intuitive or it might seem just plain insane, but pain is helpful.

At times it’s incredibly helpful.  I used to be a runner.  I ran the New York Marathon in 1986 with my Dad.  In preparing to run the marathon I did many long training runs – 10, 12, 15, 18 and even 20 mile runs to get ready for the big 26.

People become inured to pain.

It doesn’t happen over night, but it happens drip by drip.

I learned that if I had some aches and pains before a run I wouldn’t take any kind of pain killer, because that’s how people injure themselves.  If they’re numb to the pain then they don’t know when to stop, when to shift and change.  It’s true for athletes and it’s true for everyone.

If we numb ourselves to the pain, the agitation and irritation, and all the other myriad of feelings and emotions then we’ll not be aware when to make a change.

I’ve learned this:

If I can feel it, Spirit can heal it – when I’m willing to let it go.

Pain often comes from blocking the flow of Love.

Even if we’re intentionally blocking the flow of Love, don’t we wish to have a wake-up call in order to know when we’re hurting ourselves?

I used to deceive myself into thinking I could block the pain and still have the Joy, but I ultimately had to face the fact that it’s not possible.  If I’m not willing to feel the emotions I don’t like, and the feelings that bother or confuse me, so I block them all, that’s not going to be the end of it.

I cannot selectively block the suffering, but allow the happy to spread like wildfire.  If I shut part of my feelings down, I’m shutting them all down.

I’ve learned to be grateful that I get the emotions and feelings that signal when my thinking is sticking.  I’m grateful that my feelings let me know when I’ve ridden the pain train to crazy town and it’s time for me to partner UP with the Higher Holy Spirit Self.

When we realize how much healing is available to us we can learn to become grateful for the indicators that we’ve lost track of what’s REALLY going on and it’s time to partner UP.

I’ve learned not to be distracted or deterred by trying to figure out or understand the ego perceptions, the causes of upset and other ego escapades.

Bottom line:  the ego will never understand what the spirit already knows.  And that’s because ego is nothing.  Spirit is everything.

Why mess around with trying to figure out WHY we’re having a problem when we can go direct to the problem has been healed back to the root cause?

I’ve made so many trips to crazy town on the pain train and I don’t wish to make one more.  The things I learned that healed my life and led me to the happiness I have now are the gold and diamonds of my life.  And that’s what I share in my classes.

We can learn to transcend pain and heal the root causes.

No More Tolerating Hate Speech

Friday, October 16th, 2020

Yesterday, I saw a headline that startled me and so I posted the link to the article with the picture

And I asked this question:

“I’m curious, do you think she would feel like HER workplace was hostile if someone used the word that begins with c and rhymes with runt? Just wondering … what are your thoughts?”

The comments quickly became political, which is not what I had been hoping for. And so, I spoke up in the comments and then I revised my post all together and said this (with a couple of additional edits):

To me, this is not about politics and it’s not about this 1 person’s statement, opinion or perception: If I were a black person and someone used the N word in my work environment, I would not feel safe.

Heck, I’ll be honest you, as a white person, I wouldn’t feel safe if someone started using the N word – I would, of course, use my awareness as a spiritual student to bring Love and compassion to bring forth the wisdom of the Holy Spirit.

AND, if I didn’t have that ability, if it were me 30 years ago, I, FOR SURE would feel threatened and not safe with people using racial slurs. Because of how I was raised, I would endeavor to help the people who were using those words to raise their awareness – but that doesn’t mean it would be safe or comfortable for me.

If someone used the C*nt word in my environment I would not feel safe. I’ve had that happen and I didn’t feel safe. If people use derogatory, racial, sexual slurs around me I am not feeling myself to be in a safe environment. BECAUSE IT’S NOT SAFE. It’s not safe for ANYONE.

When people are derogatory and sarcastic, and using words that are attack words, it is an unsafe environment for EVERYONE.

If someone attacks ANYONE, they attack EVERYONE. All is one.

There’s nothing political about my bringing this up. This is about the SOCIETY and CULTURE in which we live. This is about what we find acceptable and unacceptable.

Right now, I live in Vermont, where it is 99% white people. And there are BLACK LIVES MATTER signs everywhere. There have been regular BLM demonstrations here in the town square, week after week, with ONLY white people.

This is about realizing that hateful words cause a disturbance that is NOT TO BE TRIVIALIZED.

If you were the only Jew in the room and people started using words that are derogatory ONLY about Jews, you would feel threatened and disrespected. Of course, you would.

My point is not about politics. Take the woman’s photo off this headline, her name and her opinion and just see this:

Using The N-Word at Work Doesn’t Make A Workplace “Hostile”

I’m interested in cultivating a society and community that values loving sensitivity and absolutely NO MORE TOLERANCE OF HATE SPEECH.

We must change our minds about tolerating this kind of talk in our culture. NOW.

We don’t attack the ones who use hate speech because clearly, they are already feeling attacked and threatened or they would be speaking differently. They would be living from their loving heart if THEY felt safe.

The only way that we can ALL feel safe is if we care for each other and stop attacking, and tolerating attack.

>The attacker ALWAYS feels attacked.
>The judger ALWAYS feels judged.
>The lover ALWAYS feels beloved.

Why? Because it’s EMANATING from them.

Let’s teach ONLY Love for that IS what we ALL are.

No more tolerance of hate speech.

When we hear something, see something, let’s say something – and let it be kind, from our heart. WE CAN DO THIS!

It is ours to do!
I love you!

Breathing and Healing

Thursday, October 15th, 2020

What I’ve really come to love about the spiritual approach to life is that every day, every hour every moment can be a part of our spiritual practice.  I used to feel this was a burden.  I couldn’t bring myself to pay attention ALL of the time – that was too much to ask of myself.  It felt so burdensome.

The burden was in the judgments I had against myself, not in the actual practices.  By releasing more and more judgments, I was able to make my spiritual practice more and more easeful and graceful and that has blessed my whole life.  Now, I can be grateful for each opportunity I can find to turn whatever I’m doing into spiritual practice.

One very beneficial way we can increase our vitality is through breathing consciously.

This is one of the things that my kundalini yoga practice has taught me.  If I sense myself getting tense, I turn to deep breathing.  This is something anyone who has the ability can do without cost at anytime.

Here are the benefits of long, deep breathing:

  • Long deep breathing relaxes and calms you due to its influence on the parasympathetic nervous system.
  • Increases the flow of prana.
  • Reduces and prevents the build-up of toxins in the lungs by encouraging the clearing of the small air sacs (alveoli).
  • Stimulates the brain chemicals (endorphins) that help fight depression.
  • Brings the brain to a new level of alertness.
  • Pumps the spinal fluid to the brain, giving greater energy.
  • Stimulates the pituitary gland to secrete, thus enhancing the intuition.
  • Filling the lungs to capacity revitalizes and re-adjusts the magnetic field.
  • Cleanses the blood.
  • Regulates the body’s pH balance which affects the ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Energizes and increases vitality.
  • Aids in releasing blockages in meridian energy flow.
  • Activates and clears the nerve channels.
  • Aids in speeding up emotional and physical healing.
  • Aids in breaking subconscious habit patterns such as insecurities and fears.
  • Aids in fighting addictions.
  • Re-channels previous mental conditioning on pain so as to reduce or eliminate pain.
  • Gives the capacity to manage negativity and emotions, supporting clarity, coolheadedness, and patience.

That’s a LOT of benefits!!!

There are some healing techniques that you can use and you can read about them here.    You can also join my 40 Day Meditation Challenge – it’s a simple practice that many are finding so very helpful.  It’s free to join us Click here now to learn more.

I urge you to become a “breath expert.”

One thing I do almost every day is to practice long deep breathing white light meditation lying down in bed first thing in the morning.  I usually wake, go to the restroom, wash out my mouth (I use a tongue scraper) and go back and lie down for about 10 to 20 minutes of deep breathing while lying down using an abdominal breath.

Breathing slowly and deeply I start by fully exhaling. Be sure to exhale fully and get that old stale air out, bring in that fresh new air.  It’s even better if you can step outside for a couple of minutes and do the long deep breathing.

Inhale filling first the belly, then expanding the chest, and lastly lifting the upper ribs and clavicle. The exhale is the reverse: first the upper deflates, then the middle, and finally the abdomen pulls in and up to fully exhale, as the belly pulls back toward the spine.

While I’m practicing this deep breathing, I’m visualizing myself filled and surrounded with golden white Light and I make I AM statements of positive affirmation.

“I AM the purity of Love.”  Is a favorite.  “I AM the light of the world.”  “I am an eternal being of infinite Love.”  You can find the ones that resonate most for you.

It’s a simple practice that starts each day with Self-Love and self-care and all those benefits in the list above!! WOWZER!

Some people cannot breathe deeply.  I’ve had friends who had major issues with their lungs and breathing deeply is not something they can easily do.  We can consciously send love and light to anyone having difficulty breathing while we’re breathing deeply and that becomes an added bonus in our spiritual practice.  We don’t have to think of anyone in particular.  Let all beings find ease and grace in their breath.

Have you practiced long deep breathing and know the benefits?  Are you participating in the 40 Day Meditation Challenge?  Please tell us about it and share in the comments below!  Let’s join together for our healing and inspire each other!  Thank you!

Cultivating My Neutral Mind

Wednesday, October 14th, 2020

When we place our faith in anything other than God’s Love for us, we’ll be upset. That’s how life works.

It’s so tempting to put our trust into our own ability to judge what’s happening in the world as good or bad – but how can we really know unless we can see the cause and effect of EVERYTHING.

It was a breakthrough for me to realize that my inability to see through all directions of time and space meant it was impossible for me to really know what anything is for – and therefore I cannot know that it’s not good.

I cannot judge it good or bad at all, and actually know that I’m correct.

I used to have so many pronouncements about what is good and bad, without actually knowing and I caused myself a great deal of pain that way. That’s why I was so relieved to realize I could change that habit and stop trying to figure out if everything was good or bad and what its purpose was.

Instead, I could simply trust. Yay, God!

Right now, with all that’s happening in the world, it’s more important than ever not to judge.

Let us remember that A Course in Miracles tells us everything is actually neutral.
“To learn this course requires willingness to question every value that you hold. Not one can be kept hidden and obscure but it will jeopardize your learning. No belief is neutral. Every one has the power to dictate each decision you make. For a decision is a conclusion based on everything that you believe.” A Course in Miracles, T-24.in.2.

Our beliefs are the basis of our thoughts which are the basis of our feelings. This is why we work at the level of the mind to relinquish our attachments to the beliefs that are false and that works – it works to release the cause of suffering and to expand our Peace and happiness. It works.

Will you join me and together we’ll surrender the thoughts that upset us so. What a blessing that we can do this. We have what it takes. Holy Spirit is our trainer and we are getting in shape!

The Appeal of Hell

Tuesday, October 13th, 2020

Haven’t we all chosen hell when we didn’t have to?  Sometimes we do it to spite ourselves or someone else.  Sometimes we feel compelled and can’t resist.  It’s a crazy world and we can lose our minds in it.

I can remember actively choosing the very things that I knew would cause me harm.  Even staying up too late would be something completely unnecessary that would then have repercussions that I didn’t need.

I would get into an argument with someone and then go too far.

Then I’d feel guilty and ashamed and angry because I felt guilty and ashamed.

I’d want to blame it on someone else, but always knowing it was my choice, and I blew it.

There is a choice for hell.

Sometimes we make it.

I notice that I don’t do that anywhere in my life anymore, but I used to do it all over the place.  So, that’s the good news.

How did I do it?

Forgiveness works.

Doing the real spiritual work of interrupting the patterns, choosing Love, self-forgiveness, extending compassion and all of the things that I teach about.

I’m so glad to have found things that actually work, for real.

We can choose heaven.  We don’t have to choose hell.  We have choice.

We can choose Love and Peace instead of hell.

Releasing the Pain of the Past

Monday, October 12th, 2020

I used to have memories of things I’d said and done that would make me cringe at the remembrance of them. It was an awful feeling. A mix of shame and regret. These memories would come over me and I’d literally shudder to think of them.

Self-forgiveness freed me from all of that.

Self-forgiveness gave me humility and common sense.

Self-forgiveness gave me the freedom to no longer beat myself up from the past.

Most people I know have strong regrets, some people are tortured by them and I pray they find self-forgiveness.

One of the most beautiful things to know about self-forgiveness is that when we truly release the judgments of the past, we will likely barely think of those past errors again as there’s simply no need to.

The past is resolved and the attachment or judgment of the past is dissolved.

We are free.

My life of mistakes, short comings, obnoxious and belligerent behavior and outbursts, and a million missed opportunities to extend

Love has taught me to take responsibility for my choices and actions.

To learn from them and share what I learn.

No blame.
No shame.

As Thich Nhat Hath says, blaming never helps.

Everyone I know makes errors.

Life is a constant stream of tactical errors, missteps, freak outs, meltdowns and mayhem, and yet, we can rise above the battleground with self-forgiveness. We can remember to laugh. We can remember to have compassion. We can set ourselves free with admitting the truth, and having the humility to take responsibility for our choices and their effects.

One thing that helps me is the last paragraph at the end of Chapter V, the text of A Course in Miracles – this one paragraph is a complete life-changer:

“Decision cannot be difficult. This is obvious, if you realize that you must already have decided not to be wholly joyous if that is how you feel. Therefore, the first step in the undoing is to recognize that you actively decided wrongly, but can as actively decide otherwise. Be very firm with yourself in this, and keep yourself fully aware that the undoing process, which does not come from you, is nevertheless within you because God placed it there. Your part is merely to return your thinking to the point at which the error was made, and give it over to the Atonement in peace. Say this to yourself as sincerely as you can, remembering that the Holy Spirit will respond fully to your slightest invitation: I must have decided wrongly, because I am not at peace. I made the decision myself, but I can also decide otherwise. I want to decide otherwise, because I want to be at peace. I do not feel guilty, because the Holy Spirit will undo all the consequences of my wrong decision if I will let Him. I choose to let Him, by allowing Him to decide for God for me.” T-5.VII.6.

Let’s give all the consequences to the Holy Spirit for healing and move the heck on in gratitude for the gift of God’s unerring grace! Are you willing? That’s all that’s required!

Relationship Hell

Sunday, October 11th, 2020

Relationship hell? I’ve been there. I’ve explored it in many ways, traversing the downs and way downs of it. When I was younger, as a child, a teen ager and until about age 30, I would get so angry that I felt what I describe as a murderous rage.

I’d become so upset, so threatened, and so afraid of being hurt that all I could feel was fury and desperation. My upset was like a hurricane, searching for some way to calm down, but only picking up speed and becoming more and more dangerous. I would frighten myself I’d be so upset.

I’d become so loud, and mean and desperate, without any self-control, that I’d rage until I was too tired to continue. Reaching exhaustion was the only thing that would get me to stop. My family’s or boyfriend’s attempts to control me would only make me infuriated. It was awful.

Once exhausted, I would collapse into a puddle of my own despair. I’d be consumed by self-hatred and fear of myself. It was all proof that something was horribly, uncontrollably wrong with me. I was beyond hope, or so I was convinced.

I learned to accept that this was just who I was, what I was. I felt like a bad seed. I felt like there was some kind of demon in me and that terrified me. That fear was so intense that I couldn’t handle any kind of criticism or teasing. I learned to be very focused on self-preservation.

What I can understand now, that I didn’t understand then, is that it was extremely important that I learn how to have no other authority. I needed to be my own authority. No one could boss me around or intimidate me. When I was younger, it meant that I was always in a fight with the people I was “rebelling” against.

Now, I can see that I wasn’t really a rebel at all. I was maintaining my sovereignty. When I finally reached the point where I could make Spirit the authority in my life and really listen to that still small voice, I had the ability to walk in the world without being pulled this way and that by other people’s opinions. My mind was able to be strong and focused, following Spirit’s guidance.

Historically, if you look at many of the mystics, you can see that they appeared to be rebels too. That wasn’t their intention. It just looked that way.

Unfortunately, I went through many seasons of relationship hell where I felt completely unlovable. I felt excruciatingly bad and wrong so much of the time – but that didn’t stop me from acting out. I was frequently mean and cruel in defense of my insecurities. Now, I have great compassion for people who behave that way and I can really help them to break out of it.

I learned to try to control everything around me, constantly monitoring, to keep from being manipulated and controlled by others. I learned to always be on the offense as my best form of defense. It was exhausting.

I was constantly cleaning up the messes I made in my relationships or just walking away from them. Many bridges have been burned and many have been blown up.

I don’t ever wish to go back again in my past. I don’t look back anymore. Instead, I continuously ask the Higher Holy Spirit Self to help me harvest all the wisdom from my experiences.

What I learned is that I was constantly repeating my same upsets and errors because I was holding grudges. Holding grievances prevented me from learning from my experiences because I always thought I knew what everything was for.

When I learned to forgive, to give up my meaning for everything, then I could discover what things were really for, and harvest the wisdom they brought me. Eureka! It was a way out of hell!

The most amazing thing I’ve ever learned is that true forgiveness heals deeply. True forgiveness heals long held mental and emotional patterns in a miraculous way.

A Course in Miracles promises us that the Holy Spirit will undo all the consequences of our wrong decisions if we allow it. The thing is, most people feel so guilty, and believe that they should be punished, and so they won’t allow the consequences to be undone. Yet, no matter how long we’ve lived in that mindset, we can shift in an instant. We can get out of hell.

I’m so glad I figured out how to ALLOW all the consequences to be undone and to rescue my relationships.

I know this is a repetitive theme of mine, but I feel I absolutely have to keep sharing what is so precious to me – and that’s the realization that when we hold the highest and best for our relationships that’s exactly what comes to pass.

I’ve been a spiritual counselor since 2000. That’s 18 years of counseling individuals and couples. I’ve been teaching classes and leading retreats for 21 years. In all this time, with all of these people, almost everyone I’ve ever worked with was experiencing some kind of relationship upset that was rocking them to their core.

ACIM tells us that relationships are the #1 tool we have to heal our mind and wake up. Let’s do exactly that starting NOW.

Like me, many people have been so completely brought to their knees or flat on their face in the manure by their inability to maintain relationship harmony – and the meaning they make of it. This need not be.

Forgiveness is a miracle tool. It’s not magic. It’s miraculously healing, and that’s an entirely different thing from a temporary magic fix.

Miraculous healing lasts.

It’s permanent healing because it’s at the level of the mind – not the level of the personality.

This isn’t behavior modification or anger management – it’s true and lasting healing.

This isn’t self-improvement, because we don’t need improvement – we only need to let go of that which is false.

Hey, I still get annoyed on a regular basis.
I don’t get angry like I used to AT ALL anymore.
I don’t ever go to the place of thinking that there’s something wrong with me.
That’s completely over.
And that’s what I am holding for everyone.

As a counselor, I’ve worked with people who’ve felt way beyond any kind of hope, and they have been transformed by the healing of their mind.

They had to be willing.
They had to ALLOW the healing to take place, to call it forth, accept it and receive it. It’s not magic. It takes real willingness. It’s not a passive thing. It’s active willingness.

We cannot hold onto complaints and expect miracles.
We cannot hold onto grievances and also energize the highest and best.
We have to choose which way to go.
We can learn through pain or we can learn through miracles and Joy.

The holidays are coming.
It’s a time when we can either re-energize the old hurts, disappointments, regrets, guilt, blame, and shame – or we can decide to be a healing presence in our relationships.

We can repeat the past or we can call forth a renewal and restoration.
It’s our choice.

I’ve been teaching forgiveness for 20 years and it’s been a great learning to me. I continue to be AMAZED at how forgiveness transforms EVERYTHING, including our physical pains.

I don’t consider myself a healer, but I do feel that I’m a healing presence. Where I once was utterly convinced that I was a really bad person, I now know that there are no bad people. We’re all good and beautiful people who can sometimes get convinced that we’re bad and then act that way.

When someone feels unlovable they don’t have much to lose, but what little they do have they can’t afford to lose. They will defend themselves through attacking. Think of a wounded dog that’s been so hurt it doesn’t trust anyone.

When we can’t trust ourselves to be loving or kind, even when it’s really important to keep from ruining our relationships, then we can feel completely unworthy of Love. We’re not, but that’s how we feel.

Forgiveness is the only thing I know of that heals back to the root cause of things. When we ALLOW the healing back to the root cause, whatever that might be, in this life or any other, then we’re free forever! That recalibrates our whole life.

Now is the time to make a commitment to forgive EVERYTHING and let our ability to fully give and receive Love be restored to us.

No matter what we’ve done, no matter what has been done to us, we can be restored at the level of the mind. From the mind, it will ripple into all of our relationships and experiences, even into every cell, fiber and function of our physical, and emotional bodies as well.

Let’s get active with the forgiveness.
Let’s become experts at it.
Let’s deeply commit to truly heal by allowing the Holy Spirit to undo all the consequences of our wrong decisions – even the ones we don’t recall. The Holy Spirit can heal it all.

In my classes, I invite people to PROVE that God works. That way they KNOW, they really know.

Doing this work now, we can have completely different experiences this holiday season. Let’s get out in front of this.

We don’t have to carry the past into the new year. We can put our attention on the things that cultivate joyful, happy learning and living.

In ACIM, Jesus tells us forgiveness is the #1 tool for our awakening, for healing, for liberation. Let’s believe him. We can prove that forgiveness is liberating and then we’re modeling it for everyone.

I’m choosing liberation. How about you?

Any healing we do for ourselves, we do for everyone.

Let’s take the lead this fall and get ALL of our forgiveness done.

Pulled By A Vision

Saturday, October 10th, 2020

One of the things that truly amazes me is how much I can LOVE spiritual truth and principle.  It lights me up and I never find it dull.  To me, loving spiritual principle is the same as loving Spirit.  Loving truth is loving an attribute of Spirit.  It’s like with a person, and loving the sound of their voice.

There are so many things that we can love about this life, and I used to have a tendency to focus on what I didn’t like, rather than what I did.

It’s like learning to focus on what I’d like to have happen rather than what I wouldn’t like to have happen.

We can have a vast improvement in our day to day experience of life when we are willing to shift where we place our attention.

We are the only ones who can shift the focus of our attention – no one can do it for us, although we can get help with it.  Making this shift requires real willingness, but it’s SO doable if we have that willingness.

The fact that it’s even possible to make this kind of change of our perspective is so exciting to me.  We can have tremendous healing very quickly with great willingness.

I feel that part of my job as a minister is to help people increase their willingness.

That’s part of what they come to me for.  And it works!  Which is such a blessing.

We can be pulled towards our spiritual awakening by the vision of the beauty of life rather than pushed by the pain of our perceptions.

Isn’t that wonderful?  We can truly change our minds and help others do the same.

Victory!

If you’re ready to shift your perspective and be pulled by the vision of God’s Love in your life then join my Spiritual Bootcamp class – Finding Freedom From Fear – we start on Monday.

Spirit’s Guidance Can Be Trusted

Friday, October 9th, 2020

As I write this, I just finished offering my 7 Simple Steps to Interrupt Patterns of Fear free class (I’m offering the last one tomorrow, Saturday). I feel so uplifted and grateful. When I’m sharing in this class, I’m remembering the things I went through and how I got to where I am now. What an amazing journey it has been.

One of the things I’m most grateful for in my life is something that Melissa shared in the class – she’s grateful that she has learned to pray an effective form of prayer. That the practices we do in the classes actually work.

We can prove that Spirit is at work in our lives.

I’ve been so resistant and reluctant to follow Spirit’s guidance in my life – to breakthrough to a great willingness has been extraordinary. I never thought it was possible for me – until it was.

I say, give any and all concerns you have completely over to Spirit and let Spirit do it. Take your hands off it and trust, trust, trust.

I was forced to trust or collapse and I decided to trust Spirit.

I thank GOD for that. I thank GOD for the challenges that forced me to try the path of trusting Spirit instead of trusting in my own ability to figure out how to solve the problem. Phew!

Spirit knows the mindset that created the problem cannot offer a solution.

We must trust to have a breakthrough.

If you’re ready to learn this level of trust that is so life-changing – join my Spiritual Bootcamp class – Finding Freedom From Fear – we start on Monday.

TOMORROW I’m offering you this class as a gift.  My gift to you.  Come and join me.  Tomorrow.

Transforming Fearful Thoughts

Thursday, October 8th, 2020

One of the most helpful things I’ve ever realized is that I have mental patterns and habits that come from my beliefs.  Specifically, they come from my false beliefs.

What’s true isn’t a belief and there aren’t patterns that repeat around the truth.

I got SO TIRED of repeating the same painful patterns.

I especially got SO TIRED of repeating the patterns of fear that showed up as me being resistant and reluctant to follow my heart, pursue my dreams, and really live the life I desired.

One of the places where I saw the repeating patterns the most was in my relationships.  And that was really hard to take because I would feel like I was failing at being a lovable person and it scared me so much that I couldn’t handle it.  I had to bury all of that.

Burying the fear and fearful thoughts wasn’t helpful to me.

That habit created its own set of issues.

Perhaps you can relate.

What was INCREDIBLY HEALING and HELPFUL to me was realizing that if I could at least interrupt the patterns of fear and not succumb to them.

Even the smallest interruption could make a difference.

My interruptions of the patterns of fear helped me to break the habit of fear and gather the strength to make positive loving choices.

That was a game-changer.

I’ve learned so much more about undoing the patterns of fear and I’m going to share some of it in the FREE CLASS TODAY and Saturday – and then A LOT of it in my Finding Freedom From Fear Spiritual Bootcamp that starts on Monday.

If you’ve had enough of fear – don’t wait anymore – don’t hesitate – come join me!  We can break these habits and patterns together.  Let’s do it!

No Enemies

Wednesday, October 7th, 2020

You probably know how much I love the sermon Rev. Dr. Martin King, Jr. gave on Loving Our Enemies. Its elevating excellence is a healing balm in a fitful world today or any day.

He took the title from Jesus who, when he walked the earth, taught us to love our enemies.

In A Course in Miracles, the teaching is really that we have no enemies, regardless of how it looks in form.

In fact, Jesus goes so far as to tell us that the one we regard as an enemy is a savior sent to help us. WOW!

My invitation to you is to look around your consciousness and your life and look at who it is you might feel hatred for. Maybe it’s someone you despise or find offensive. Jesus is telling us they are your savior.

Will you reject your savior or let the Higher Holy Spirit Self lead you and guide you to the salvation you desire?

This is an upside-down world. And accepting that helps us to navigate.

It’s a crazy thing to accept – that our enemies are our saviors, but if we’re willing the world will sweetly shift and heaven will be revealed. This I know.

If fear, worry and doubt are a concern for you. If you get blindsided by guilt and anxiety, then you might find benefit from my free classes this week – or my Finding Freedom Bootcamp that begins on Monday.

I’m offering you this class as a gift.  My gift to you.  Come and join me. Tomorrow.

7 simple steps to interrupt the patterns of fear.

We’ll go deeper into the practical tips and tools that worked for me, so you can interrupt those patterns of fear and attack and make new choices, creating new habits that support the life you desire.

It might seem impossible, but I’ve done it and helped many people learn to do this too.

Here’s the good news:
“No one can fail who seeks to reach the truth.”
That’s Lesson 131 in A Course in Miracles

You cannot fail if you’re sincerely willing to live a loving life
– you don’t have to be there already.
– start where you are.

All your previous failures are just evidence of your lack of sincerity.
Don’t be fooled by appearances.
If you’re sincerely willing to live without fear, you cannot fail.
It’s the Truth.
Now, will you prove it?
Once you prove it to yourself, there’s no going back!

Abundance Focus

Tuesday, October 6th, 2020

Healing the habits of fear isn’t easy, but it’s FAR EASIER than living in fear.

But you wouldn’t know that if you’ve always lived in fear.

One of the things that happens is that we get focused on what we don’t like and we keep investing our precious attention on the lack and limitation we see and feel – not realizing that we’re actually generating it with our thoughts.

People often feel it’s a MIRACLE when they change their thinking and then their experience changes.

I remember one time at the end of the year in Masterful Living someone had tripled their income – without doing anything different in terms of building their business or doing more to attract clients.  What they did was they shifted their consciousness to be more receptive and to focus on what they’d like to experience rather than what they didn’t want to experience.

They shifted their attention from NOT having, to having.  And, because they were less judgmental, critical and attacking in their mind, they felt more worthy of the good.

It’s really not that complicated – it’s just about the willingness to actually do the work at the level of the mind.

When our mind changes, the world of form HAS to change.

It doesn’t have a choice.  The world responds to our thinking.

We doubt because we don’t want to believe we’re that powerful.  That’s the same old story.

If you’re tired of that same old story – maybe you’d like to eliminate the patterns of fear.  I hope so.  Please join me.

That’s why I’m offering you this class as a gift. My gift to you. Come and join me. Today.

I’m Choosing Heaven Today

Monday, October 5th, 2020

Yesterday it came up in several conversations that people I know people who are very angry and upset with the President. That’s not surprising. I get it. And …

And, we’re still one with him. If one is lifted, all are lifted. Let’s lift our brother up in our consciousness.

The greatest gift anyone can receive in this world is to awaken and know the Christ in our own awareness. How can I desire that for myself, but not wish it for my brother, when we are joined in Christ?

I pray for the highest and best for all of us, because the highest and best for any one of us IS, ABSOLUTELY the highest and best for all of us. We’re united, how can something bless one person, truly bless them, and not bless everyone. I can’t see the possibility of that.

I hold for both my brother and myself, that we are rising up in our awareness, liberating from the belief in separation and I cannot go that way unless I bring my brother with me. He is my salvation. Let me not look elsewhere.

Yes, sometimes people’s choices sadden me or rather, my thoughts about them sadden me, and sometimes I get irritated or frustrated, or even angry, but still, I cannot choose heaven only for myself.

I wouldn’t want the heaven that excludes my brother.
It couldn’t be heaven.

It would be only some country club illusion of heaven that is not worth even thinking about.

All healing is at the level of the mind.

The habits of fear, and separation are at the level of the mind.

Willingness IS required.
It’s the willingness to choose Love beyond our personal preferences for how we’d like the world to be.

Love is not Love if it has conditions. That’s the healing power of Love.

Healing the habits of fear isn’t easy, but it’s FAR EASIER than living in fear. But you wouldn’t know that if you’ve always lived in fear.

That’s why I’m offering you this class as a gift. My gift to you. Come and join me. Today.

Tipping Point

Sunday, October 4th, 2020

I used to go through cycles where I judged myself to be the worst of the worst. One of the most painful things in my life was repeating the same relationship experiences. I’d have the same arguments with the same people, and I’d be left feeling hopeless and helpless to dig out of the hole I was in.

Can you relate?

We all have our own particular ego vices and devices. When I was REALLY threatened, I’d find any kind of an attack thought to throw at people to let them know to stay away from me. I’d say unkind things and feel out of control. It was demoralizing.

My uncontrollable upset behavior was just the proof I needed to convince myself that I was a total loser and there was no cure for what I had. I’d feel so upset it would be like my whole being was on fire – it was. I was feeling the destructive burning of my attack thoughts. I was feeling the searing pain of my false beliefs being “proven” yet again.

I had a desperate need to be right ALL of the time, to mask my insecurities. I couldn’t handle any kind of judgment at all. When I’d start judging myself, I’d implode with desperation.

My life went on like that for decades.

Now, through my practice of forgiveness, I can see that I’ve almost completely eliminated all negative self-talk.

Even when I feel challenged or feel that I could have made a higher choice, there’s no self-judgment no matter how hard it is for me or how many times I seem to fail.

Negative self-talk is a rare thing for me these days.
I never thought it was possible for me.
This has been true for years now.

I crossed over a tipping point.

And that’s what inspires me to keep sharing – I’d like to make it easier for everyone to do the same.

Catch this: Because I now know it’s possible, I can help others believe it’s possible. Folks in my classes are healing so much faster than me because they believe it’s possible for them. It took me decades to get to that place. Now, folks in my classes get there in a fraction of the time.

I thought I could improve my situation, but healing didn’t actually seem fully possible for me. I was too far gone. I was so obviously on the outside of “good.” That’s what I believed, and because I believed it I felt it was true and I saw evidence of it EVERYWHERE.

I know that forgiveness is the key to my transformation. Forgiveness is still the key today.

Forgiveness is a miracle in the mind.

All healing happens at the level of the mind.
Then the healing makes its way to the rest of our lives, showing up in form.
And miracles show up in form too!

We resist doing the forgiveness because it feels so intimidating to look at the intensity of our thoughts and feelings.

I used to be convinced that these things work for others, but not for me. I’m special. Especially bad.

I was SOOO reluctant to do that deep inner work. What I see for most of us is that we resist until it becomes so painful we can no longer stand it.

Pain is a great motivator.
And I don’t wish to be motivated by pain any more.

I’d rather be pulled by a vision of healing relationships and enjoying every situation and feeling secure and safe ALL of the time.

One of the main things I’ve realized is that unforgiveness, resentments and regrets, are major blocks to our healing, our abundance, our relationship transformation and our physical healing. Not only that, but unforgiveness blocks our intuition.

Without the ability to listen to our intuition, the ego is in charge.
Without the ability to be truly guided and inspired throughout our days, we tend to repeat the past.

As a spiritual counselor, I often talk with people who have reached a point of no longer being able to tolerate the pain. We wait until things get so bad we can’t stand it anymore and then we are finally willing to look for a solution.

I did the same thing.

Now, I’m grateful for what I went through because I can really understand much of what people are going through and I can support them in breaking free of those painful patterns.

There’s a tipping point – and I’ve proved we can get there.

Healing the habits of fear isn’t easy, but it’s FAR EASIER than living in fear. But you wouldn’t know that if you’ve always lived in fear.

That’s why I’m offering you this class as a gift. My gift to you. Come and join me. Today.

7 Simple Steps to Interrupt the Patterns of Fear

Scorekeeping

Saturday, October 3rd, 2020

Yesterday I was talking about winning and losing and playing games. Today, let’s talk about scorekeeping.

There’s a thought pattern in the human experience that has to do with keeping score. It’s a pattern I’m ALL too familiar with as it caused me much grief.

The belief system that creates the attraction to keeping score is based upon consistently reinforcing that we are separate from each other. This thought is the root cause of ALL suffering.

We share one life because we have on Source, a Source from which perfection comes to us … As we were, so are we now and will forever be. ~ A Course In Miracles

One of the most powerful decisions I’ve made on my journey to spiritual sovereignty is the choice to stop playing small. In order to fulfill that, I had to stop keeping score. I decided that I wanted to fully EMBODY an understanding of the Oneness of all life. Some people talk about the Oneness without ever actually moving to that deeply life-changing commitment to LIVE IN the awareness of Oneness.

Knowing something intellectually and embodying it fully are two different things and they bear different fruits. I decided to taste the fruit of making EVERY choice from the awareness of perfect Oneness. That’s what brought forth my experience of being in a spiritual boot camp for my awakening awareness. (And that’s what I share in my Finding Freedom From Fear spiritual boot camp class which starts Oct 12.)

Think about it: If we’re one with everyone, why would we keep score?

Who is there to keep score with if we’re one?

If I’m keeping score then I’m naturally going to project that onto God and think that God is like Santa Claus keeping track of who is naughty and nice and rewarding the good and punishing the bad.

When I live in that fantasy world of keeping score I will forever be fearful.

Keeping score is not fun.

It is a constant investing of my precious time and energy in judgment and watering the seeds of separation which can only bring me the fruit of limitation and fear.

I released the scorekeeper and replaced it with consistently remembering that all I receive comes from a Divine Source and all that I have to give I share with my brothers and sisters. I share everything because my source is unlimited. Who can I share with that isn’t part of my eternal God Self?

All is One and the score is Love ALL.

All that I receive I receive from the Beloved. All that I give I give to the Beloved.

Playing Games

Friday, October 2nd, 2020

Last Thanksgiving, I had the pleasure to spend several weeks in Scottsdale, AZ near my BFF, and longtime prayer partner Karen Russo. My friend Chere came from NYC, and my friends Janice and Mike came from a few hours away and we had a lovely time playing games and celebrating my birthday.

One time, playing a board game, Karen said, “I think Jennifer needs to count her points, she may be close to winning.”

I knew that I had already won a while ago, but I didn’t wish to stop playing and I didn’t care that I’d won.

It was the journey not the destination.

One of the things I’ve talked about lately in my podcast is winning and losing. I love to play board games and card games. It’s something many of my family have in common with me. I remember loving to play Monopoly when I was pretty young.

I also remember just how competitive I used to feel and how it was an intense emotional experience. I used to get really upset if I made a “bad” move, or if I missed an opportunity. I’d get really upset about the game if I didn’t play well.

What I love now is being able to enjoy myself just as much regardless of who wins or who loses.

It really is the joy of playing that matters.

I love being able to have time with my loved ones and to be playful. I enjoy the strategy. Sometimes I win the game and sometimes I lose. I don’t have a better time when I’m winning. I never would have imagined that was possible before.

In my classes, folks sometimes share about the pain and suffering they experience when they compare themselves to others.

We say, “compare and despair.”

There’s no point in comparing. None. It always leads to a sense of lack and limitation and hence the despair.

There are so many mental habits that folks have that agitate their mind, and cause distress – and they can be eliminated MUCH more easily than we might imagine.

Comparison is a trick of the ego to help you feel more separate. It always leads to suffering. It doesn’t matter if you compare and think you’ve come out ahead or you’re lacking – since there’s only one, either way you just feel more separate.

My invitation is to look at the habit of comparing and despairing and to simply give it over to the Higher Holy Spirit Self to do the heavy lifting.

Life is a lot more fun without comparisons – they’re completely unnecessary and unhelpful most of the time. Give it up! Instead, celebrate what we have in common – for all of us, our true nature is perfect Love. Let’s celebrate what unites us and feel the unity!

Stories

Thursday, October 1st, 2020

Do you ever feel like you’ll never find your way to feeling really good?  I’ve felt that way.

Have you ever felt like you’re doomed?  I’ve felt that way too.

Fortunately, these are temporary feelings of upset and pain.

If we’re willing to open our mind we can release the burden and the suffering.

A Course in Miracles tells us exactly how to free ourselves from feeling damned.  That’s what salvation is, it’s our liberation from believing all the stories we’ve made up.  We can make the choice for salvation, but sometimes we resist simply because we’ve become so identified with being wrong, bad, undesirable, and rotten that we would feel lost without that false identification.

We cling to the story we’ve made about ourselves simply because we made it.

We love the story we made up because we made it.

We love the story we made up because we’ve invested so much into it.

Would you be willing to let go of your investment in thinking you don’t deserve perfect happiness?  It’s something to honestly consider.

Who would you be if everything you believed about yourself was actually completely untrue?  Would you be okay with discovering that all your struggles were meaningless?  These are the valuable questions that A Course in Miracles asks us to consider.

Ultimately, we’ll be choosing salvation.  Saving ourselves IS saving the world.  It’s tempting.  Consider being able to  save the world without being a martyr.  If you knew you could succeed would you be willing to be the savior?  Would you be willing to be ALL IN for LOVE?

Debates

Wednesday, September 30th, 2020

Last night I was texting with friends about the Presidential debate. I had decided not to watch it – I don’t have a TV anyway, but I could have watched it live-streamed on the web if I’d wished to.

I decided not to watch because when I checked in with my body, my body was repulsed. I literally felt queasy at the thought of watching. That was a solar plexus, third chakra reaction.

This tummy response tells me that my ego would have gotten threatened had I listened to the debate and it’s better for me not to. I can know the highest and best for everyone more easily if I don’t watch the experience of “attack and defend” live.

My friends who watched live were texting me that they were upset by how it was going. My response was to remember that the Christ is within each one of us. We’re one with each other.

Let’s know the truth in order to be at Peace.

People ask me all the time about what Self-Love really is. Self-Love is me not putting myself in a situation where my judgments will get the better of me.

For me, retaining my equanimity is far more important than most other kinds of experiences.

I’ve learned that it’s important for me to check in and “fact check” my own sensory system for where I might be prejudiced by false beliefs and misperceptions.

Stoking the fire of my judgments will only hamper me and my desire for world Peace.

I truly desire world Peace.

My life is dedicated to it. I’m willing to work at the level of the mind to be fully responsible for the world I see and for the healing of it. It’s taken me a lot of work to get to this place and I intend to maintain it.

Healing Our Regrets

Tuesday, September 29th, 2020

When I was a teenager, in my twenties and beyond, I would sometimes say and do things that I’d later regret and wish to bury forever.  I’ve had all kinds of experiences that led me to be self-disgusted and even afraid of my own emotions and outbursts.

I’ve had times when I got really drunk and couldn’t remember half of what I said, and what I did – although I’m 100% certain I never I never was molested or attacked someone myself while under the influence.

I used to have memories of things that would make me cringe.  Self-forgiveness freed me from all of them.

Self-forgiveness gave me humility and common sense.

Self-forgiveness gave me the freedom to no longer beat myself up from the past.

Most people I know have strong regrets, some people are tortured by them and I pray they find self-forgiveness.

My life of mistakes, short comings, obnoxious and belligerent behavior and outbursts, and a million missed opportunities to extend Love has taught me to take responsibility for my choices and actions.  To learn from them and share what I learn.

No blame.

No shame.

As Thich Nhat Hath says, blaming never helps.

Everyone I know makes errors.

Life is a constant stream of tactical errors, missteps, freakouts, meltdowns and mayhem, and yet, we can rise above the battleground with self-forgiveness.

Mask or No Mask

Monday, September 28th, 2020

I’ve had a number of people ask me if folks are wearing masks in Vermont. First of all, I have a very limited exposure to other people here. I see a few friends locally and we’re not always wearing masks because we’re not dealing with people who aren’t from the neighborhood. There’s no virus right around here.

Second, when I do venture out, it’s to the grocery store or to pick up take-out locally. I’m in a very rural area of Vermont. There aren’t a lot of people in the grocery store. Take-out pick up is usually outside. Almost everyone in town, even though it is a TINY town, is wearing a mask walking on the street, or at least as soon as they get close enough, they put on a mask,

Lincoln, Vermont, the town I live in, has a tiny general store and that’s it. Lincoln is 44 square miles with a population of 1,250. A square mile is 640 acres. That’s 22.5 acres per person. To put it in perspective, Washington, D.C. is 68 square miles with a population of 705,000. That’s 0,06 acres per person. We’ve got lots of room for social distancing.

Bristol, the next town over has 3,800 people and has a couple of restaurants and a modest chain grocery store, and a Walgreens. The next nearest decent grocery store is at least 30 mins from my house. We’re out in country, on the edge of a huge national forest, in the mountains.

Right now, we’re experiencing a drought. Every day someone new on the road (it’s a dirt road, btw) has had their well run dry. We’ve had hardly any rain all summer. Our well at the house here has run dry. It’s challenging, but no one is complaining as things are much worse for people elsewhere. We have no fires. We know rain will come. In fact, I just learned it’ll be coming this week.

Back to the masks.

People wear masks in stores and public places here because they care about their neighbors.

In a rural community like this people help each other. If someone is sick, neighbors take food, they cut wood, they shovel snow, they go to the store for them. When you have excess squash in the garden, you distribute it to neighbors. You care and you share.

In this environment, to not wear a mask would be to say that you don’t care about your neighbors and community. It’s that simple.

I understand the politics of masks, and, in this neck of the woods, it’s just common courtesy to wear a mask.

It’s a sign that you care about more than yourself – and politics.

I’m not saying it’s right or wrong to wear a mask – I’m only sharing what I feel is happening here in this community in rural Vermont because so many people have asked me.

Almost every time I go to the grocery store I have a little dance I do. I put on my lip balm, I get out of my car and walk to the store, then I realize I forgot my mask, I turn around and go back to my car. I wipe off the lip balm so I don’t smear it on the mask and I put on my mask and walk back to the store. I’m just now getting to the point where I remember to bring a mask.

This won’t last forever, but it is what’s happening right now. I’m not afraid of the virus. I’m not afraid, because there’s nothing for me to fear.

I do care that people know that I care and so I wear a mask.
